Do you have RN training? Starting point would be getting registration sorted so check out requirements for the state you plan on living and working in. I do believe however Midwifery is at a higher level than diploma in the US
OK with midwifery in Ghana it comprises of studying nursing as well but can I get work as a midwife with diploma and later top up with the dedegree
So I would like in Colorado and how can I get the requirements am from Ghana and can I work with diploma and do a top up degree later

You must be licensed as RN, which is generalist training and then obtain a msn in nursing midwifery. Both require a licensing exam . You would need to have your education examined .
I have have a license but how would I get my education examined in the usa to be able to work as a midwife and what are other requirements that would be needed from me

^^^^^start there. That is where you begin if you wish to work as a lay/non-nurse home birth midwife in Colorado. Only certified nurse midwives work in other settings (RN/BSN + MSN)
The website explains how to have your credentials assessed for equivalency to CO/US non-nurse midwife credentials.
This credential only gives you the option to practice independent home birth and home prenatal care
Non-nurse midwife is not a program eligible for "top up" courses towards RN like a licensed practical nurse and some paramedics.
In Colorado only certified nurse midwives can work in hospital, facility and outpatient settings.
Non nurse midwives can only do in home prenatal and midwifery care in CO. Most states do not recognize this credential

Bad news even if your credentials are good plan on one year of studying, based on the last statistics, nurses from your country have a very low pass rate on the nclex exam.
No one has asked you, do you have tbe legal right to work in the usa?
so to clarify, contact the colorado board of nursing, they will examine your education to see if you qualify for the right for the nclex. You can not apply for midwife program until you pass the nclex, the school will evalate your education and tell you how much more schooling you will need. Plan on one to four years more, and a funding source for the schooling.
