May 29, 20188 yr Hi,I'll be graduating from nursing school in northern ca in a year, I have heard good things about kaiser and I would appreciate any opinions. Is kaiser a good company to work for?Are you able to switch nursing Departments? How is the pay? What is the pay diff for evenings, nights, weekends?i would appreciate any information thank you!
Jun 9, 20188 yr The places I've worked pay 1.5x your base pay plus what ever differential after 8 hours. After 12 hours it's double time. And for the person who said you won't get benefits if going per diem is not correct. I have 2 friends who work per diem and get medical benefits at my old hospital, but they have to work more than 30 hours per week. They will only pay medical benefits though, so no PTO and possibly no contribution to retirement. What you need to do is check the contract with the hospital, Kaiser being a union facility.
Jun 9, 20188 yr Kaiser WILL NOT provide benefits even if you work >24 hours. Yes, you may be able to pay for it, but you will NOT BE OFFERED free benefits. Sorry to burst your bubble. Per Diem employees, although not eligible for benefits, will be entitled toapplicable overtime/premium pay and/or differentials, and maintaineligibility for pension benefit pursuant to Article XXIV, 2402.Please don't argue with a Kaiser nurse about benefits. Yeesh.
Mar 27, 20197 yr Kaiser pays one of the best! But I was told they also work their nurses the most. They do have great health care/ cheap. Their per diem makes awesome money but as per diem u may float to different units...

Aug 11, 20196 yr I have heard that pay at kaiser is good, but it is because the nurses do a lot. for example, there are no CNAs and you would have to draw your own labs and do your own breathing treatments. Is this true or did I mishear somebody?
Aug 12, 20196 yr Well I got into kaiser so I can say yes it’s true. At least in the ER you draw your own labs and do your own EKGs. Pay is great, ratios are usually 3:1 but you work hard as they move patients fast.
