Well I got into kaiser so I can say yes it’s true. At least in the ER you draw your own labs and do your own EKGs. Pay is great, ratios are usually 3:1 but you work hard as they move patients fast.

No California doesn't require OT pay after 8 hours or every nurse would be making crazy money out here.

I'm just curious how you found out about the opening? I can never seem to find anything for new grads on kaisers site. Any help would be appreciated

Hmm everything I see with staff nurse I says: 1-year recent (within the last 3 years) full-time equivalent experience in _____, or successful completion of a KP ____ course or approved equivalent within prior 12 months. I've been looking for weeks and never see anything that doesn't include this.

How do you get into Kaiser as a new grad? I've been searching for an open position in southern california and have not seen a single new gra dprogram offered by kaiser. There's literally one down the street from me in Downey and yet every time I check online theres nothing

I am very curious to learn more about your ED experience. I will be starting in the ED shortly and would love some tips. Even though I have been on all nurses since '08 it won't let me PM you because I haven't personally made 15 posts though I have responded to a bunch. If you wouldn't mind PM'ing me or answering on here. Just looking for tips of what to study, what helped you get going, how you dealt with feeling like you knew nothing, is there anything they gave you or suggested you do to get up to speed etc.

I live in Los Angeles which has a ton of hospitals. I feel lucky because the first New Grad position I applied to was for the ER (my goal position) at a hospital 10 minutes from me. They only had one opening for new grads as the rest were for staff transitioning from other departments. My interview went extremely well and they offered me the position on the spot. I know this isn't common and the reason I am posting this is because I was shocked myself. LA though is much easier to find a job as there are so many hospitals here and in Orange County. Most of my classmates were able to find new grad positions within 2-3 months of getting their RN. Best advice is to make a portfolio of everything you have done that pertains to the position you want... and it does not hurt to have your ACLS/PALS certification as that looks good to employers because thats one less thing they have to worry about training you on.
