working and going to school

Congratulations on your admission to the LPN program....I'm currently studying the LVN program in California and I'm enjoying my time as a student. I work about 20 hours a week, it's very hard but it's doable. I ALWAYS take my homework to work because I do have some down time. I work in a hospital and the nurses there are so supportive of my studying (there are a few of us who are studying to be nurses) and they even answer questions for me and give advise.

It seems like everytime I have free time, it's really not free because I always have a book in my hand or I'm typing some notes or something, reviewing medications etc. It's overwhelming, but I got used to it. What ever you do, don't give up. Keep studying and I know that you working 30 hrs a week is going to be hard, but you can do it.

I just finished my program but did not work. Many students worked full time and attended my program M-F 8-1, and did pretty well. I admired them because I personally couldn't have done it. My job was salaried and I had to work full time 9-5 or resign so I decided to sacrifice the year. I'm so happy I did. Just do your best and don't give up!

I am starting an LPN program the beginning of October and will also have to work at least 30 hrs a week while going to school. Will anyone else (or is anyone else) working while going to school? I'm just curious to get feedback from others....is it possible to work almost full time and do well in this program?

I am working 35 hours a week and going to my lpn orogram and I have a 4 year old daughter that just started pre-k and she goes to after school but I am attending the part time program in the evenings 2 days a week and every other weekend clinicals>It is hard but doable.I try to do all my chores on sundays like laundry,target,ironing a weeks worth of school uniforms and grocery out of the way.When you have all that done the morning s are much easier and smoother for both you and the kids.Try to cook dinner once or twice a week and put them into containers and use left overs the other days.When the kids come in from school let them relax have a snack watch a lil t.v. then their homework if that is the age of your children,then dinner wash up and ready for bed once you get the kids down and out early you have the rest of the night and the house to yourself to bathe,relax and study.Hope this helps if it applies good luck.

I only work on the weekends and started out working Thurs-Sunday but quickly realized I didnt want to tackle the extra weight. Working on weekends helps and I still have ample amount of study time. I also started saving money the day I found out I was accepted and now I have enough money to pay my rent for the remainder of my lease...next May!! So the 15-18 hours I work a week is basically gas and food money and also gives my brain a break from studying. One girl graduated in the class b4 me came and told us she worked 50 hours a week and has a lil son...ask me how she did it I couldn't tell you but I commend anyone who works and has kids and going thru Nursing school:up::up:for u!!! But you can do it..DETERMINATION is key. Remember what we were taught when we were young..ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE...it can be done. GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS!!

I too have to work at least 30 hrs b/c I have three kids and bills(rent, utility and whatever else). You may want to look into WIA through your Workforce Center. I'm going through them and they help with bills, books, fees, pay some of tuition, gas, and other things as well. Help this help.

Apply to work as a nurse tech in your loca hospital. You will learn valuable info, and get paid for it:heartbeat

Hey there! I'm in the same situation as you. I work friday saturday sunday monday 10 hours 6-4 then school tues wed and thurs 2-930.. I also have a 4 month old puppy and a 16 month old son and a boyfriend that kinda sucks haha. So far so good.. I just spend time with my son after work those days and study at night when he goes to bed and i spend time with him during the day on the days i have class and study right before i go to class when my son takes a nap and when i get home i study some more. GOOD LUCK GIRL! Stay commited and keep your eye on your goal!

I just a started LPN school on 9-2 and I can tell you that right now it's doable to work and go to school. Keep in mind it really depends on the individual. For me....I have NO Choice but to continue to work full time. What you are gonna have to do is set time during the week to study and do homework. It's been a challenge for me but I've mananged so far. No class on Fridays so I pretty much have 3 days to catch up on any work. I am a perfectionist so I'm very hard on myself when it comes to school even work. :specs:It's your decision and whatever you chose will be fine for your situation. Stay strong and good luck!
