Work environment makes a difference?

I have posted on a couple threads where some new grads had said that they really were undecided what "unit" they want to start in...... as long as it is a good work environment.

I agree with this. I just quit a job that I was miserable at... Amoung many things, like no orientation, short staff, etc.. I often worked with nurses that made me feel uncomfortable when I asked a question, or just had snippy attitudes all the time.

Now, I am the kind of person that loves to find fun in my work and I like to laugh and make the most out of my day. I couldnt do this with these people, except with one nurse who took me under her wing when she noticed that I was struggling and unhappy. When I worked with her I FELT like a nurse and it didnt matter how hard the day went, I always felt like if I had a question or needed help she would be there for without making me feel horrilbe.

What do yall think? Is a good work environment important to you?? Or can you work in a tense environment without any problems???

For me, coworkers make or break the job. Currrently it's breaking, lol!

I've worked in a few really toxic environments, but now I'm spoiled. Never again.

Good work environment yes, makes or breaks a job. Fortunately, right now mine is MOSTLY "making it". Coworkers who stand with you and help you out when things are rough, doctors whom you respect and who respect you, are the things that are wonderful about the environment where I work.

It is VITAL! If I am not in a position where I am myself and comfortable there is no way I can work to my full potential! The environment directly effects that, so if it is faultered...on some level so am I!

Plus I do believe that nurses are professionals and deserve respect for what we do...why not make it as work friendly as possible...

I think the key to a healthy work environment also has to do with the direct management.

Can you elaborate on that banditrn? How will direct management change a work environment? Are you saying that people have bad attitudes because they are unhappy with the management situation?
