The time has come, I am actively looking for a job. I have an appointment to see someone this week and have several leads on other positions that sound interesting. I am a little unsettled, I have not worked in 2 years, hubby has kept me busy and sister with their various medical problems and operations. I know I have to "sell" myself and my skills again, so even though I feel I can still perform, it is a little daunting to be actively looking for work.
I guess a big part of this is knowing, if things go anywhere near as planned, I will be moving to a completely different part of WV. Yes, I am going to leave my mountain-top and head to a little more populated area. Funny to think I will have people for neighbors instead of deer, bear, foxes, cows and horses. It is just too much for hubby to continue to try and do the things that need to be done up here.
I spoke to the board about my CEU's and I am good shape, I have taken 30 to 40 units each year for the past 2 years, so nothing extra is required. I do need to do CPR again, but I do not feel that is a problem. I just want to return to med/surg for awhile. I know every facility has different machines for IV's and glucose checks, so I expect to have to learn how to use those.
Anyway, keep a good thought for me and say a prayer or two if possible. I hope everyone here has a good weekend. :heartbeat :) :)

Good luck with your search and welcome back to the nursing work force. I hope you find exactly what you are looking for.
I have not posted much, but I am from West Virginia as well and love living in the mountains with the deer, cows, bears, etc.
Have a great day!
Thank you for the good wishes. I have added at least 4 more places to my list since I first posted my search notice. I really had no idea there was so much out there, especially since I am looking in a completely different area than I have ever searched before.
Maybe you will be more active on the BB, it just takes jumping on a time or two. Have a good day. :)

I graduated from LPN school 2 months ago and have not found a job. How could I get at least a foot in the door somewhere ?

Hey girl!
Where are you moving to? What part of the mtns do you live in now? I grew up in Tucker co., but work in Parkersburg now.

Good luck, Barefoot. We know you've been gearing up for this for a while.
If you are half as thoughtful and articulate during your interviews as you are on this board you'll have no trouble at all getting a job.
Like you said, the pumps and other doodads will be taught when you're hired, usually during hospital orientation.
I will be working in the Parkersburg area. I start officially Oct. 24th. I think it will be good, not too much new stuff, at least at first, and the unit has a few older, experienced nurses, so that will be nice. I will keep everyone posted.
Well things are very tight right now in Southern WV. Have you passed the boards? Have you tried Pinecrest, Pine Lodge, or the facility in Beaver, WV?
Since you said southern WV, I am speaking of the Beckley area.
There was a facility in Oak Hill that needed help about 2 weeks ago. It is on Saddle Shop Road, I cannot remember the name, but it's listed in the phone book.
The facility at Glasgow, a Beverly LTC, always needs help, but be warned, it can be difficult there. Heartland in Beckley is always needing help too.
I do not know exactly where you are looking, so these are just some that come to mind.
It is difficult to be a new grad, wanting a job, and not knowing where to look, especially around the southern part of our state, but keep looking, put in applications every where, and if you do not get a call from them, then YOU call them and inquire if the position was filled or if the interviewing process is still going on. I wish you luck, it will happen. Have a blessed day. :)

I appreciate your kind words. I think the lady was surprised and stunned during our conversation since I told her I had no real demands about the holidays or set days to be off. I think it will be nice to get those scrubs on again. And I have kept all of my shoes clean and in plastic bags until I needed them again. Hubby was surprised and pleased. He is sort of looking forward to having some time alone to sit and watch the deer. He says I keep him too busy. LOL! I will keep everyone posted on the particulars. Have a blessed day.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I try, really try to live by the golden rule. Somedays it works, others it doesn't, but it generally makes life more interesting and fullfilling on the days it does work.
