Congrats! I got the call too - It still hasn't sunk in completely. Have four and a half months to get everything in order, figure out what to do with my condo, etc. I'm stoked! I was in the Monday interview group.
Tell me about Houston. Where should I live? I'm from Albuquerque, don't know Houston very well.
No way, I just moved from Albuquerque too!!! I'm from Michigan originally, but I've lived in ABQ for almost four years. Where did you work? I'm just finishing up a travel assignment in Northern Cali, not sure where I'm going next. I was in the Friday interview group, hasn't sunk in here yet either...
I don't know Houston well at all, but I've been looking at apartments already. The Baylor website has some Houston links, but my favorite is rent.com. From my search so far, it looks like there are some cool loft conversions in the Medical Center area, and just south of downtown. Looks like an easy drive (or metro ride) to school. But I'm no Houston expert by any stretch, I'm up for advice too.
Congrats!!!
Crazy! I work at the Heart Hospital in the CVICU. Where did you work?
I worked at Lovelace (Gibson) - ICU and CVICU, then moved downtown before Gibson closed. Just a guess, but I just told my roommate that someone else from ABQ got in, and he thinks he knows you. From the Heart Hospital...you may have precepted him. His name is Jeff K.?

For those of us planning to apply at Baylor next year, would you guys that got accepted (and even those that got interviewed) mind posting your "stats"?

Other certifications
Pretty please? :)
Don't think so - I just started there in June. Haven't ever precepted anyone. Speaking of, got to head out to work - congrats again!

Well, it's still a small world! Congrats to you too, and have fun at work. Just think, a few more months of bedside nursing, and we're on our way to CRNA!!!

Hey folks I'm not in the Baylor Program yet...God willing I will apply and get in 2010...But I do live in Houston now (3rd Travel assignment) and to tell you the honest to God truth you will want to live as close to the Med Center as possible, because that's where ALL your clinicals are. And Baylor is the BEST school as far as clinical sites in the Med Center. Stay inside Loop 610. I don't know how much you want to spend for rent, but inside the Loop is more expensive. You can find some apts for $600-$700 (maybe a little small) a month here, in upwards of $1200 depending on area and size. Some areas to check out near the Med Center are: Greenway plaza area (15mins), Upper Kirby,(15mins) Rice Village (5mins), The Museum district(5mins), and Reliant Stadium(5-10mins) area.

I too got the call yesterday ...what a great feeling. I have not yet decided if Baylor is where I will end up, I have one more interview left on Monday at Gonzaga. I feel like I need to experience each interview to make a quality decision like this, although my impression of Baylor far exceeded that of any other school I have interviewed at thus far. The only downside I can find about Baylor is that nobody seems to have anything good to say about Houston. poor Houston. Anyway, I am excited to be starting school again soon wherever it will be. GPA 3.5, GRE 1160, 2.5 years MICU/SICU (no hearts), CCRN, decent interview. This was my 4th interview this year so I actually felt relaxed and not intimidated...I think this helped a lot. Good luck to everyone, if you are determined you can do it.
houston seems like it has a lot to offer in terms of entertainment, culture, etc., i'm just not looking forward to the weather. i remember traveling home from honduras and passing through houston one summer - houston was hotter and muggier than san pedro sula! oh well, sounds like we'll be in the 65 degree cadaver lab most of the first few months anyway. i'm sure we'll have a good time.
