Every now and then I'll completely cut caffeine out for a while and let my body readjust. When I start again it's almost like drinking it for the first time and I don't have to drink three cups a day!

But start running and exercising. Seriously. Get some $12 running shoes from Walmart, put on your iPod, and just do a mile a day. You'll be amazed and how much more stamina and energy you have.

A can of monster while I'm getting report and a couple cig breaks during the night.

I am totally with you on this- I run five to six miles a day. But right now, it's tooo grrrr cold:eek:

I am with you on the Monster (Lo-Carb though)! Finally cut out the cigs though a few years back, now I just work out every day. As long as I get 5 hours of sleep, im normally pretty good to go for a while.

meth? just kidding

Get more sleep.

Get more sleep.

LOL! yea, this does seem like a no-brainer, but I worked Nights for about 12 years, and there were so many nurses that came in for the 12 hr night shift that didn't even take a nap that day! they didn't want to waste the day..... so they would be up 24 hrs or more! waste the day? if you worked days, you wouldn't stay up all night just catching up on stuff around the house!

when I worked nights, on those real slow nights, I would take a walk with a co-worker in the parking lot to get fresh air. talk non stop. read. take a break on a different unit. cleaned the med room. Organized the stock room.

modafinil, a drug used to treat narcolepsy. A few Drs and Nurses here in Canada use it to keep alert during nights. Lasts about 10 hrs.

Our hospital has a gym. I use it for about 15 mins, 2 times a night. It seems to keep alert throughout the night.

AKA Provigil, they used to give it to cargo pilots.....

A couple of Excedrin, caffeine and it helps on the old bones.
