When to begin looking for job??

I graduate in December with my FNP and plan to take my certification in Feb 2015 (Praying I pass because it still feels like I can't retain any information). I live in FL but looking to relocate in Charlotte, NC or maybe even TX. Two questions current NPs

1. When did you begin looking for jobs and were employers hesitant at hiring if you weren't certified yet?

2. Did anyone relocate to another state and was it difficult to find a job while in a different state?

If you are also looking locally you should start networking and the month about jobs your first clinical rotation.

If you are going to be looking out-of-state, I would plan to be actively looking by November.

Many (in some places, most) places will not consider your resume unless you are licensed in that state.

I would start looking around in your area now, and start making good impressions with your clinical preceptors. I graduate in December also, and was offered a job in writing in my very first clinical rotation. If you're looking out of state I think it might be difficult to apply, but at the very least you can get your RN license in NC and Texas so that it won't be as difficult to make the transition after you graduate.

I ended up applying locally. I graduated in Dec 2013, i started looking and interviewing in October. With every offer i got, they were fully aware i was about to graduate and was not certified yet. The job i accepted gave me the offer in Dec, i took the boards 1/31 and started working in February. Doesn't hurt to start looking around now. I agree with the others, if you want to go out of state get the RN license now. I played around with the idea of relocating GA after graduation. I applied for the license, just in case, and it took several months to get it. Good luck:)

Great! Thanks! I didn't even consider how long it would take for licensure. I plan to do that in July and begin loking for jobs in Oct/November. I have made some contacts locally and even one in Charlotte, but I'm 100% sure I want to leave FL and even considered not even applying locally if I could find a job out of state in a fashionable time. Glad to hear you had several offers! What job sites/postings did you use to apply and find jobs?
