I work the 7-3 shift with alternating Thursdays, Tuesdays and every other weekend. I like my schedule because it's good to have days off during the week when I can get errands done and also to have my daughter at school so I can just veg.
What I don't like is not always having 2 days off in a row and also not being able to go out late on the weekend nights that I work.

i currently work as a manager, 7a-3:30pm. or 4:30, 5:30....you get my drift. i like it because i'm more on schedule with my teen son in high school, and am available evenings to do things for him or with him.
i loved the 3-11 shift in the hospital, because as i was getting tired, the patients were also settling down. on days, you are often getting post-ops back at 1-2-3 pm...very busy, and on nights, at the end of your shift, the patients are waking up and the docs are coming around...just when you are getting ready to get out of there!
at one point, i worked 3p-3am and i really loved that! three days a week, and able to go home to sleep while it was still dark!

I used to work 7a-7p rotation. 76hrs one 2 week period, 84 next 2 week. Then i got a straight day trade and do 7a-7pm and nothing else. I work 2 days, off3, work3, off 2, and have one week a month that i have one day instead of 2 in a row. Works well and i can take 12 hours of vacation time and have 7 days in a row off that week every month if i want.

I work 7p-7a, 3 shifts a week. The way it is set up now, I work 3 in a row (which I prefer) either TWT or WTF, that way I can get 5-6 days off in arow without taking vacation hrs. When I started nursing, oh so long ago (!!) I worked straight 11p-7a, M-F. I really liked that, I worked when my friends were asleep, slept when they worked then went out ot whatever with them in the evening. I'm a dedicated night shifter though, always have been.

My favorite shift is 7p-7a but unfortunately we have to work all shifts and it is very miserable !

I am a case manager in an ER and I work rotating day/evenings without a set schedule. I work either 8 am to 4:30 or 3:30 to midnight. Am currently looking for something else.

I work either D (7:30-3:30) or E (3:30-11:30) on rotation. I am only working part time because working full time with this type of schedule and school at the same time is just too much. I used to work 12 hours shift 7a-7p and 7p-7a. I can say working full time it was easier for me with the 12 hours. I like having more days off. Also I would consider D (7:30-3:30) only as a good deal. I love being home in the evening. If you like sleeping in E is great.
Thanks for your replies! I've worked 3:00 - 11:00 on a non-healthcare-related job, and I did like it a lot better than the regular 8:00 - 5:00 shift. I'm not a morning person at all. I'm also interested in hearing from people who work/have worked the week on week off thing. That seems like it would be pretty cool.

i work 4 ten-hour days: mon, tues, thurs, fri. while straight 8-hour days was ok, i really needed that day in the week to get some personal things accomplished without having to take a vacation day everytime i needed to have a medical or dental appt. sometimes i think i'd like to have 3 12-hour days, but where i work, they are hesitant to offer 3-12's. i wish i knew why since the charge nurse is usually fairly desperate for people between 5 and 7. i'm lucky not to have to work weekends (yet) but i do take call about every other weekend (nights), and one weeknight night call every two weeks. i work overtime frequently. :stone
