What would you do?

Place you work continues to have employees that can do as they please because of who they know. Patient, elderly man was violated coming to the OR, Five people took cell phone pics of a Patient While a wake. I have been just sick this kind of thing continues to happen and have no resources at work to report this or get help. What would you do? If anything can be done?

I'm going to take a guess that the facility isn't doing anything about HIPAA complaints because of the consequences they would face. The fines can be incredibly steep depending on the severity or reason for the violation.

The facility may be mandated to report violations, then suffer the consequences. If the facility doesn't report, then no fine [i'm assuming here. It's been a few years since I've read HIPAA laws].

Use the HIPAA hotline and report the incidents you're seeing.

We will see, team leaders were sent email from management that a compliance officer will be coming to look at phones. (Warning them, then they told staff of the people coming). We shall see.

Bc rules are not inforced

Bc these same individuals have been reported if other things. Nothing done but the one that reported it was pointed out to be the trouble maker and soon let go for "other reasons"

Based on your statements that unchecked behavior is not a new thing at this facility, why do you stay around? The longer you stay, the longer you expose yourself to being let go as a consequence of other people's behavior, status, vindictiveness, etc. Leave of your own accord and the employer is less likely to blacklist you with potential employers.

Corporate compliance was notified and nothing. Upper management got email they were coming to check personal phones. Upper management told staff. You can figure out the rest.

How are they going to request to see everyone's personal cell phone without a warrent or something similar.
