I think Benedryl but I dont no if thats right and I cant find the answer

Is it Mucomyst?

Is it Mucomyst?

That is usually given as a renal protective agent more so than after an allergic reaction.

Is this an NCLEX practice question or something from the actual NCLEX, or...? In real life practice it is likely going to be a cocktail of drugs of which benadryl is one.

Yes, Benadryl makes sense. However just saying that the patient had a "reaction" isn't really specific enough. If the patient had a mild allergic reaction like itching then benadryl would be appropriate. If the patient is having a severe anaphylactic reaction then you would need something different, like epinephrine.

Hi

this is for real life practice, but I guess it can be an NCLEX type practice question.

one of my classmate had that question and instructor said Benadryl.

ok thanks!

Ashley, PICU RN has the right answer. What you're asking about is anaphylaxis. Epinephrine is the mainstay drug for such reactions, however a minor reaction might be treated with just an antihistamine. Other protocols include intubation, O2, inhaled beta-agonists for bronchoconstriction, vasopressors (hypotension), and IV fluids.

thank you

I would think benadryl is good for minor reaction

Epinephrine for bigger reactions.
