What kind of computer do you have?

PC or Macintosh? Desktop, laptop, PDA?

I'm getting a computer soon - just wondering what everyone liked and preferred as a nursing student.

Thanks!

I've had the baby 12" Sony Vaio laptop for 10 months now and I absolutely love it. It is small enough to carry all day long around campus and is still a very capable machine that rivals the bulkier desktop replacements in features. If you are in the market for a new notebook I would look to Dell, Sony or IBM. Stay away from the bargain basement HP's and Compaqs as they have a bad problem of overheating rapidly.

I have an eight year old Dell, that still works great. My eleven year old Epson laser printer still works great, too!

........Dell has decided to offshore the tech support to India. Seeing jobs moved to other countries really ticks me off :angryfire . At least as a nurse, my job can not be sent offshore.

Andrew

No, but off-shore nurses are coming here. Same thing!

Another Dell fan here ... I've had two Dell computers and just bought a Dell PDA - LOVE IT! :)

I was disappointed, however, in Dell's decision to move customer service to India. Not cool in my book. But honestly, in all these years I've only had to call customer service twice.

Good luck with your purchase - gotta love new toys! :p

Thanks to all of you who replied... I have to admit that I was initially a little heartbroken, because I was raised on Apples/Macs and absolutely love them, but when in Rome, do as the Romans do - I don't feel like acquiring the massive headache that comes along with format/compatibility!

I appreciate all the good advice!

Stay away from the HP's and the Compaqs....I have (had) the 5150 Compaq laptop and have had problems with it from the get go. It overheats, the hard drive has crashed, the floppy has crashed and it has multiple electrical probems...The thing is 1 1/2 years old and I have sent it back 4 times. Of course now the warranty has expired and the old problems are back (hard drive and floppy both crashed AGAIN !!! The turn around time on the service was great but they really never fixed the problem and would not replace the lemmon that they sold me. So now I have a $1800 piece of trash sitting in a case just collecting dust. NEVER buy a Compaq or HP !!!!!

I don't know Jim. I've never had a problem with our HP's. Had an HP for the past oh, 7-8 yrs or more.

Had an HP desktop too...only lasted 2-3 years..sent it back twice for repair. Ive really thought it might be the "user" But I have never had trouble with any other computers. Ived tried Sony and Dell and have really been impressed with them. No more HP's or Compaqs for me...but we all know that they are one in the same...HP owns Compaq.
