What was your GPA?

Published

Just out of curiosity - I understand the interview and GRE are big parts, but I'm only a freshman in college and I'm trying the best I possibly can to get the best GPA, but it's not always so easy! I'm in Chem right now and it's pretty tough for me since I skipped intro and never took it in high school.

Anyways, I was wondering.. to the people who are already CRNAs, what was your overall GPA before getting admitted to CRNA school?

I'm sorry if this is already posted, I looked!

Thanks :)

Specializes in Anesthesia.

3.6 overall, 3.87 in sciences

Specializes in ob/gyn med /surg.

3.95 before the nursing program and 3.63 on graduation from RN school

Thanks! Yeah, I don't quite have a 3.95! I wish I did :(

Oh my goodness, lol those are amazing GPA's

I would like it if more people commented on this thread, i too am hoping to go to CRNA school one day.

Specializes in CVICU.
Specializes in CVICU.

I had 3.6 for my BS in molecular bio, and a 4.0 in nursing school

Specializes in Surgical/Trauma ICU.

I have been waiting a while to post this. I have an over all GPA of 3.1 and a science GPA of around a 2.5. I have been a nurse for almost 3 years. My applications go as follows;

Interviewed at University of North Dakota: Alternate List

Interviewed at the Minneapolis School of Anesthesia: Accepted

Pulled app from St. Mary's in Minneapolis

The point of this being, while a solid GPA obviously helps, it is possible to get in with a 3.0. They look at the whole package, evaluating your work experience, letters of recommendation and credentials. A good GPA gets your foot in the door. There is now doubt about that. The rest is up to you and your interview. I would certainly encourage you to do the best you can in undergrad but you dont need to kill yourself. I feel that part of undergrad is to gain life experience as a whole. I went to nursing school with several people that got 3.8s, missed out on the culture of college and still have not made it into CRNA school.

You give me hope:bow:

That is why I posted. I have been following this site for 2 years. I remember the first time I saw a thread like this, everyone saying that their GPA was 3.5+ and that you didnt stand a chance with anything less. That is just not the case. Just like anything else in life, if you are good at what you do and want something bad enough, it will happen. I think this site was created to inspire. There are many times that this if forgotten. A little effort and a lot of heart, anyone can do it.

omg. i am so very happy to hear that you got into school magno79. you give me that hope that i too can do it. my gpa is not that great either. i realized i wanted to do anesthesia at the end of my associates degree and by then the damage was done to my grades already. i have just finished my bachelors in dec.07 and now i am interviewing to work in the ICU. i will start applying for schools in 2 years. i have a funny saying---my grades are not good enough but i would give my right leg to be a crna! i plan to apply for 2 schools in new jersey and 2 in new york (i live in NY). if i don't get into 1 i will be very depressed and hurt.

thank you for your post magno79.

It really depends on the program. The lowest GPA accepted to my program this year was over 3.6, and that person had over 5 years experience. Be flexible, get the best ICU experience you can, and don't rule out the possibility of taking additional courses to bring your GPA up.
