What to expect in Nursing School

Hello all,

I am currently a second year pre-nursing student. I'm about to start my application process soon for the Fall of 2016 and I was wondering what exactly should I expect in nursing school? I'm really excited but mostly nervous about this whole process.

There are many many threads already on this board asking the same question. I would do a search on it and see the diverse answers that others have provided. I did this recently since I'm starting nursing school in January ;)

Lota fun, lota stress, lota work. Yep, that about sums it up.

My own experience isn't what I expected exactly. I expected lots and lots and lots of hands on skills. I know more will come, but this first semester started off deceptively basic. You have to look at how each "basic" skill or assessment can help you determine something more or what are all the things this can tell you about the person.

We were introduced to nclex format on all our exams. Some people really struggled with that. I practiced before nursing classes and that helped even though I didn't know the right answer it just helped to learn the style and how to pick out what to pay attention to in the question and how to eliminate answers.

Good luck with school!

Nursing school is a whole lot of everything (fun, stress, work, and more stress). My experience has been good so far. I think the hardest thing the first semester for a lot of people is the workload and the NCLEX-style questions.
