What are the CNA classes like?

I would love to hear experiences from those of you who took your CNA classes here in Phoenix. I am going to be going to the southwest skill center this year for mine. It's supposed to be 6w long, M-T, 8-2:30 and then she told me the clinical is from 6-1, and I guess that's one day a week?
So my question is, how did you find the workload? Were you taking any other classes at this time? I am in Rio's A&P1 and Food and Nutrition class so, I'm hoping this will still be doable as I'm doing the CNA course. What were the clinicals like? Were they one day a week for you?

Mine was through my school (Yavapai), but the way ours was set up (and I imagine it's not totally different for other schools since they all have the same licensing requirements) - we had approx. 80-100 hours of classroom first (for us that was M-F, 8-4, for 3 weeks, but we often got let out of class early). After we completed the classroom, we went to our clinical assignment which added up to be around 30-40 hours of clinical training (which you could choose to do as either half days for 2 1/2 weeks or full days for 1 week).

The workload was very easy. It was all very common-sense stuff, and I don't think any of us actually opened up our texts and read a thing, and we still passed with A's. I was taking Microbiology at the same time, also. The only slightly difficult thing was that it was just very time-intensive with the 8 hours of classroom every day, but that certainly doesn't sound like the case for you. You shouldn't have any problem completing it and doing well in your other classes, as well.

I start at SWSC on Feb 22nd also, but I'm in the HCC's 6w class. Then I move onto the 6w CNA program, and then the 9 month LPN program.

You'll have to let me know what the CNA class is like! Good luck.

Good luck to you too. I did the HCC classes through Rio and they were a piece of cake. I will let you know how the CNA class is. I hope it is somewhat easy to learn because I am also doing Bio 202 and FON 241.

I'm doing bio 201 and FON right now. Are you in Jagiello's nutrition class?

So have you recieved anything from SWSC about starting the class? The thing I dislike about them is that they send you nothing in the mail. I got my acceptance letter so long ago, and have checked in with them a few weeks ago. She said they don't send anything out, and I'm just supposed to show up at SWSC at 8am on the 22nd. Uh, Where the heck do I go? I'm going to feel so dumb....

However, I am only in the CNA class. I guess if I don't hear from them I will be standing with you. I plan on going to the place I registered at in that case.

Who do you have for BIO 201?

For 201 I have Freed. She is really awesome. I like how both her and Jagiello are prompt at responding and grading homework. I had this one chic for psych 101 that was horrible! She didn't even turn the final grade in for like 6w even though she told me it would only be 2w!

Anyway, how are you studying for the FON? I find that there is a ton of vocab, so I've made cards with answers on the back and just keep going over and over them. The info is easy to understand, there is just SO much so I am studying a lot. So for I've gotton full marks on every assignment and essay.I'm nervous about how the midterm will go though.

For 201 I have Freed. She is really awesome. I like how both her and Jagiello are prompt at responding and grading homework. I had this one chic for psych 101 that was horrible! She didn't even turn the final grade in for like 6w even though she told me it would only be 2w!

I took it in 1993 but since it was a class specifically for chef's it is not acceptable for nursing. However, the class for culinary school was alot more heavily chemistry based. Go figure.

Oh culinary school! I was seriously considering culinary school at one point, but decided to go for nursing instead. So I bet this FON class is just a piece of cake for you.

How is bio 202 going? It's pretty similar to 201, just different systems, correct?

Actually I am finding it much easier. It is more than memorization and once you find out the reasoning behind a function it all seems to fall in place.

I just found out today I got into the CNA program at Boswell/Mesa CC. Only $220. I had been waitlisted. So I spent the day running arounding getting my book and registering, dropping and adding. The class started Monday so I have to catch up.
