What can I do?

I'm about to cry  because all my life I have been an over achiever. I have many awards and memberships in different organizations while in high school. This is my second year of college and I want to go into nursing school. I am almost finish with my pre-reqs. I can apply to nursing schools in March of 2013. I took my TEAS and score a 66 (proficient). I am taking it again in Feb. because I didn't do well in math. My current gpa now is 2.620. I calculated my gpa with the expected grades I think I am going to get this semester and it came out to be a 2.889. Is it ANY way possible I can get into nursing school. Do anyone know someone or have you yourself got into nursing school with this type of gpa! Oh and my ACT score is an 18.

Depends on where you are applying. In my part of the country, acceptance would be unlikely. You may be able to find a school in an area of lesser demand where your GPA would be OK. However, if you didn't excel in your basic science courses, you are going to have a very hard time in nursing classes.

You characterize yourself as an "over achiever", but from the information you have provided, it would appear that you have been focusing your efforts on social achievements (awards & memberships) rather than academic. Maybe it's time to re-think your educational strategy?

Unfortunately I have to agree with the PP. The minimum GPA is 3.0 at my school to even be considered and the cutoff is usually around 3.5.

That being said, I did retake many classes to raise my GPA. Is that an option for you?

I agree with the others about raising your GPA. You should retake courses because that is a low GPA (at least where I live).

At the school I'm applying the minimum gpa is 3.2 to be considered but the avg gpa of applicants is 3.8. It's EXTREMELY competitive. My school is actually one of the top 25 RN programs in the US. I don't even think my 3.7 will get me in :( I would retake a few classes and get your gpa up.

You need to focus on academics instead of awards and belonging to groups.

It totally depends on the schools you are applying to. Most Nursing programs I know of, they want minimum of a 3.0 GPA and the extremely competetive schools want 3.5+ GPA. I'd retake a couple of classes to raise your GPA. You want to get 3.5-4.0 in all your sciences especially because those are the grades nursing schools look at the closest when considering admission. And I'd work on getting that TEAS score up to the upper 80's, you want to be ABOVE proficient.

On top of school need a 3.0 to apply, there are many students with gpa's above 3.5. See if you can take classes to raise you gpa. There are classes needed to graduate, but not needed to apply. You can took those and get them out of the way and raise your gpa. I don't know if your school looks at core classes or cumulative, but if you can take other classes to raise your gpa, nursing school will have a lighter load since they are already done.

You should probably take to an academic adviser and find out where your work is falling short. See if you have issues with test taking or studying. They can give you strategies to improve your grades.
