What is the average GPA req for NP programs

Does anyone know what common GPA requirements are for NP programs? How about competition to get into school?

I live in Texas and am currently in my first semester of the ADN program. It will be a few years down the road but a friend of mine said she wanted to keep her GPA above 3.8 so she would have a chance to get in!! Is competition really that stiff??

The program I'm planning on attending req a 3.0, but it's a good idea to keep that GPA up as high as you can. Every prog is different so I would look into your area. Sometimes the schools go on science and nursing grades and some go on overall GPA.

In the DFW area most NP programs require a 3.0 and some programs will accept under a 3.0, but you will be on "probation".

I wouldn't worry about getting into grad. school. You would have to really blow it in nursing school to not get into grad. school.

I am looking into NP school next Fall and the school I am interested in is really trying to encourage nurses to pursue grad. school. The program seems to be pretty easy to get in to. As long as you meet the requirements you are likely in. No waiting lists that I'm aware of.

I know quite a few schools of nursing that base the GPA question on the cash in your bank account. Graduate programs are revenue generators for a lot of schools of nursing. Your ability to pay goes a long way towards guaranteeing your acceptance.

Please also know there is a glut in the US (in some areas) of NPs. Just getting the credentials doesn't mean there will be a job at the other end...unless you are willing to possibly relocate. Good luck to you.
