26 week contracts

I just signed a 26 week contract in NorCal. I was given the option of 8, 13 and 26 weeks but my recruiter and the account manager for the hospital said that at some point that particular hospital will only be offering 26 week contracts because it takes a lot of time and money to train new travelers every 2-3 months. She said at some point this will spread and become the norm within hospital systems that use a lot of travelers. Is that true? Has anyone else noticed this trend?

Total BS. But if I was the manager, I'd try to lock up an L&D nurse into a long contract. I hope you asked for more money first, just as I hope you would do for an extension.

One more reason for more money: more risk. I've only agreed to 26 weeks once. Worst assignment by far!

I agree. I will max at 13 weeks. I want to see the light at the end if it's a bad place. Àould definitely get some more money or bonuses for signing and completing. Training should take a max of 3 days IMO ,for a traveler you that is experienced.

Those contracts that typically offer 16 weeks or more, I would simply interview and ask my recruiter to submit me for 13. I never had an issue with a hospital turning me down.

I think more than 13 is too much. Let yourself decide if you want to extend.

I have only agreed to a 26 week contract at a facility at which I have done a previous contract. I would not want to be tied in that long if I didn't know for sure that the place was good for me.

I only took the 26 week contract because it paid the most money. I wouldn't lock myself into a 6 month commitment unless it was financially beneficial. I still kinda regret it though especially if what get said about 26 week contracts isnt true.
