Wasn't accepted into a program.... Now what?

Published

well this is my 2nd year of trying to apply for a nursing program and each year i get partially accepted but not fully because i wasn't randomly chosen by the computer =( im getting really discouraged and trying not to change majors but hell im 25 and i don't want to just sit around and do nothing. So far i already have one degree, and my while education background is focused within the medical field .

so far all my pre-reqs for a community college if fulfilled and at the end of this semester (spring) my pre-reqs for a state school well be finished as well. I don't know what to do anymore.

Oh yea.. and as of right now im looking for RN program and LVN programs

please any advice, tips, opinions can help me not lose my mind.

Thanks in advanced

Keep trying. Then try some more. Then when others quit trying you will get in.

I am so sorry! If I were in your situation I would see if it was too late to get in to the LVN program and then try to bridge to the RN program later. This is my plan if I don't get in to the RN program this Fall. Best of luck to you!

What are your stats if you dont mind me asking...GPA? A&P grades ? Did you take an entrance exam? What did you score? Did you have references?

I'm 24 and had to take a semester off and will be going back in January. There was a girl I know who started at 26, failed at the end of the semester and had to wait out a semester. She applied and was given a 2nd chance the following fall. Try online programs (though most require RN). I've heard some people have had good luck applying to the school in Puerto Rico as well.

There will be a good mixture of people as well some in their 20s and some in their 50s. Nursing is a diverse field and I've noticed age doesn't matter :)

Well what are your grades and scores?

Keep trying and keep applying. It took me 4 years to get accepted into RN school. Often the more times you apply, the more weight is applied toward your application. Remember, if you stop applying, you'll never get in...

Do you guys do a lottery system in CT? I am so glad I am not in one of those areas where they use a lottery system and huge wait lists. I think it is ridiculous. I would keep trying until I found a school to get into.

Yes it a lottery system. so even if you are good enough for the program your name is placed in a computed with 800 others and the computer will pick 80 plus an extra 30

I have not took an entrance exam (not to sure what that is)

my GPA Varies. Depending on what grades they take from the schools i attended my gpa is between 3.4-2.9

My A grade was B and P grade was C

i cant retake those classes the schools don't want you 2 repeat any science classes and if you do that takes points off your application and mite stop you from being entered into the lottery

Expand your perimiter of schools to travel to if not already done.

I say apply to as many different schools. You have to be willing to travel to any school accepted. I would suggest to go to a nursing admissions adviser and find out exactly what is getting those students picked into the program. Our school goes by points so I found out what GPA points would get me in and tried to have more than that. Keep trying if nursing is your passion.
