Hi
I am due to qualify form the bsc adult nursing degree in august and am desperate to come to work in toronto/brampton/oakville area asap. my family and i lived and worked in toronto for a year in 2005 and my son was born there (he has dual citizenship). I am coming to william osler hospital in august on a 4 week elective in the emergency dept and just want to emigrate soonest.i just need to come over with a job as we couldnt afford to live otherwise (we would have funds to support but wouldnt be happy moving wothout a job!) I am just in bit of limbo as i am not sure on what to do next? wait until august and see how elective goes? apply to cno (i already have paperwork!) and go from there....
any help would be great

You can't apply to CNO until you have a completed set of transcripts and graduated from nursing course. Also be aware Canadian nursing is general so if you do not have theory and clinical hours in Paeds, Obstetrics and mental healthy you may find you do not meet requirements. There is no quick way to move so look at next year as a rough estimate as long as you meet requirements, find employer or apply for PR (a lot will depend on route you wish to go)

hi
i was hoping to get something from my elective placement in august. also my transcripts will be available early august so i was planning on applying for the registration then. As i am in emergency department at the mo. i have had pead, mh experience along with obviously adult. i know that getting a job offer would be the simplest way it is just the cno bit im unsure of!.
i am applying for jobs here in uk at the mo but am just uncertain of how long i am going to be here/take before i can emigrate.should i just resign to the fact that it will take 2 years!!lol

You need a license from the NMC so I would wait until you have that before sending in your application. Employers will not be willing to take you on unless you have at least eligibility to sit CRNE (this is going on the job adverts I have seen) I would look at taking 12-24 months from graduating less time would be a bonus.

Doing a placement in the ER would not be counted as peds, mental health and adult. You would have to do hours on a pediatrics ward and in a mental health setting and you have to have the theory hours for those areas as well.

Before a Canadian employer could offer you employment they have to demonstrate to the government that they have hunted high and low and there are no qualified Canadians available for the job.
With what nurses in Ontario have posted, they can't find jobs, so .....
Every time i look on Toronto hospital boards there are loads of nursing job so how come Canadian nurses cant get jobs at the mo.?
i would like to come ass soon as possible for the reason that i am used to studying st the mo too..this would get me in the swing for the exam!!!

For the reasons that Dishes has posted.
They are required to post vacancies, NOT fill them. The "missing" nurses work is in theory covered by the hospital float pool staff and by part timers picking up extra shifts.
When the budgets are juggled and the next years financing arrives from the provinces then some of the positions may be filled.
AB's Minister of Health is saying that the province will hire a "lot" of this years graduating classes but not all of the 1800 who will graduate. This doesn nothing for the classes of 2009 who left the province for work and for those who went south to the US.
So hiring offshore nurses when there are unemployed at home, really isn't going to win any provincial government votes.
gosh i thought places where crying out for british trained nurses!!!.....
In the remote past Ontario hospitals did recruit from the UK, so I can see why you thought that. Hopefully, Ontario's deficit will decrease and hospital budgets will increase enough to open up nursing positions at some point in the future.
