Hi all,
as you know i'm moving to AZ very soon. My best friend is coming with me and he is interested in a nursing program, any kind really. I know some of the waitlists for schools around here are ridiculous and I was wondering if there were any schools in the phoenix area that dont have a waitlist?? Thanks!

I am not aware of any ADN or BSN programs in the greater Phoenix area that do not have some type of wait list. The Maricopa Community College system is approximately one to two semester wait, following the completion of all of the pre-reqs. The BSN programs typically don't have wait lists but rather are based on meritocracy.....meaning a combination of GPA/ Net EXam and sometimes other factors as well....
Not sure if this is what you expected but it is what I know.......

I think every Phoenix-area college has a waitlist. The school I'm attending is about 3 hours away, but if you have most of your classes done, a good GPA, and a good NET score, you will most likely get in quickly. (Apply in Jan-March and get in for fall or spring.) Good luck to both of you in whatever you choose!
Thanks:) Its not for me though, thank goodness im almost done (Aug. 18th). Its for my friend and he doesnt have a great GPA but im hoping he can get in somewhere and do well on his prereqs, so we will see. The waitlists here are awful, 2 years waitlist just to get into clinical.

Sounds like the Community Colleges are the way to go for your friend. The wait is only one semester if you are willing to go whereever there's an opening. The two semester wait is from people saying they will only attend one or two colleges. If you list that you are willing to attend four or five different places, your chances are better at getting in. Besides, you can put in for a transfer to a different location starting in the second block.
Tell your friend to get in to talk with a counselor at the CC and they'll lay it all out for him/her (what pre-req's still needed, etc.). Take classes over the summer and winter if possible too. It speeds things up. Good luck.

Depends on what type of school schedule your friend is looking for. The Maricopa Community Colleges have the traditional 2 year courses, some offer accelerated 18 months, part time 3 yr and even the accelerated 18 months online program for an RN. General cost is about $5000.

Right now, as of today, there are 668 students awaiting placement for the Maricopa County Community College District nursing programs. I'm not sure how many programs admit students in January, but that spells one nasty wait for the majority. At least one year...check out this link:

Thank god my wife convinced me to take the CNA class last fall so I could get my application in by October 2005....

That number is about right...it's usually a one to two semester wait depending on how many choices you put down. Also, most of the schools are increasing their capacities, for example, MCC usually only accepted 70 people in the Fall and 50 people in the Spring. They are now being mandated to accept 70 students every semester. Other schools in the district are also increasing their capacities so hopefully it should still be a one to two semester wait for most......The schools are getting more creative with scheduling their clinical rotations so that hopefully means more students can be accomodated.....

Plus, EBSN is an excellent school. I feel as if it's worth every penny of my non-wait-listed time.
