Dr Geffen is a wonderful man....now retired....I am a RPN same as LPN...

LPN's are not used in the Public Health, but everywhere else. Nursing homes have RPN's and they are in charge..give out meds dressings oversee health care aids etc.

We also give out meds(hospital) and can do everything as of now but start IV's. as long as you are competitent. We do all primary care but not seriously ill.

Yes, you would find work very quickly...not full time but you would have almost full time hours just being on call. Welland hospital will hire you asap for there Wolcott wing full time right now...desperate and they are a really nice group of girls to work with from what i understand.

Niagara region has many opennings i got 3 job offers in 1 day...have accepted 2 casual. Can work 7 days a week if I want.

Wow things have really picked up in Niagara when I was there all you could get was casual. I am currently taking a IV start program here as many jobs are requesting we are IV certified. It is really new to this area I am sure we will have opposition from other staff as usual.

I was talking with one of the Nurses Ass. board members when i was working at the National Figure Skating Competition in Edmonton Jan2004 and she was really against the LPN'S. Of course she had her BSCn. She thought i was a RN not a RPN and she said that the LPN's should not be doing all the procedures that we do. I stated in Ontario if we are competitent and a member of the Registered Health care Association we can and will use our skills to the fullest. Iknow that the Registered staff that I have worked with here (R.N.'s) have been very supportive. I have almost completed my refresher course and i was taught to start IV'S but I had also been taught venopuncture many years ago...so that was really a refresher for me not a new skill.

RPN's here are very knowledgable and I have noticed a great amount of skill that they behold.
