  1. I wish to bridge from RPN to RN and didn't have the opportunity 2 years ago to apply. I am 50 years old and the thought of 4+ years to achieve RN status is far too much. It will be a total shame and how will the CNO and the wage scale be offered when only BSCN is the only way to go.....Good for you I respect your opinion and totally agree.
  2. Is there going to be any further RPN..to RN bridging in southern Ontario?
  3. I know I was hired to work in a clinic and the RN's were only making 16.25 per hour I said that the wage was not enough for a RPN they said the RPN's were paid 15.00/hr and I was really surprised cause the RN and RPN did exactly the same job only I am also trained in venopuncture. They would also need me to cover the Lab also....I stayed at the hospital$$$$
  4. In Ontario: I know that this is to late, but the answer from question 1 is A. You must report any behaviour that is inappropriate...under the influence of alcholol/drugs MUST be reported to the charge nurse.....nurses are a self regulating body and if we do not follow the proper channels and report poor behaviour then the Nursing Association will loose their right to self govern...We are unique...we can self govern so lets not loose this right. I think we all would not want to have a regulated healthcare worker endanger (by neglect or by error in judgment)one of our loved ones Patients have the right to view their chart, but only with a Nurse or Dr. present. Again in Ontario we are governed by the College of nurses ...but if a patient's life has been compromised we can be charged with a criminal offence under the Federal Law of Canada. Good Luck in Nursing

I was talking with one of the Nurses Ass. board members when i was working at the National Figure Skating Competition in Edmonton Jan2004 and she was really against the LPN'S. Of course she had her BSCn. She thought i was a RN not a RPN and she said that the LPN's should not be doing all the procedures that we do. I stated in Ontario if we are competitent and a member of the Registered Health care Association we can and will use our skills to the fullest. Iknow that the Registered staff that I have worked with here (R.N.'s) have been very supportive. I have almost completed my refresher course and i was taught to start IV'S but I had also been taught venopuncture many years ago...so that was really a refresher for me not a new skill. RPN's here are very knowledgable and I have noticed a great amount of skill that they behold. :rotfl:
  6. Many years ago I worked in the armed forces hospital in Ottawa. The nurses were respected and treated with dignity. If I was an R.N.(I'm an RPN/RNA) I would have entered the forces...Looks real good on a resume
  7. The niagara region in On does use rpn's we do all forms of care hospital, long term care, clinics,we give meds, dressings, dressings the area is openning up for positions very quickly - as long as you are competitent in the field, there are lots of jobs and there will be more since the RN program has been discontinued..BSCN now , we cant have all chiefs .....
  8. 1000 Islands are really nice Perth area quaint about 1.5 hours from Ottawa my kids loved mississippi lake Mccullough's landing Are you a figure skater???? I filmed figure skating for 13 years

Dr Geffen is a wonderful man....now retired....I am a RPN same as LPN... LPN's are not used in the Public Health, but everywhere else. Nursing homes have RPN's and they are in charge..give out meds dressings oversee health care aids etc. We also give out meds(hospital) and can do everything as of now but start IV's. as long as you are competitent. We do all primary care but not seriously ill. Yes, you would find work very quickly...not full time but you would have almost full time hours just being on call. Welland hospital will hire you asap for there Wolcott wing full time right now...desperate and they are a really nice group of girls to work with from what i understand. Niagara region has many opennings i got 3 job offers in 1 day...have accepted 2 casual. Can work 7 days a week if I want.

I am from St.Catharines but I now live in Welland. All hospitals are now under Niagara Health Systems ..from Fort Erie to St.Catharines - St.Cath Gen..HDH..Shaver Pt.Colborne..Welland General - which has the most hospital beds. This health system is so desperate for Nurses they requested a Nursing refresher and they will be starting the second refresher in Sept. Ont Nursing Ass. will reimburse college courses up to $1500. per year
