VS equipment ??

Published

I work in sub acute rehab. We get new admissions almost everyday and never have enough blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes or temperature taking devices. We have asked for more equipment but what we would really could use is something I have seen in the hospital that has everything all together, on a stand that you wheel around. What is the name of this piece of equipment? Do you use one? Is it unusual to have this piece of equipment on a sub acute rehab floor? I'm sure it's really expensive. Thanks.

Dinamap and I don't see why it'd be unusual to have. I'm sure they are super pricey.

I work in a hospital on a similar floor and we have about 5 of those for 22 beds.

When I worked as a PCA on a surgical floor, we used Propaqs (such as this one:

we use Dinamap - but I have no idea as to price. Do not rely soley on them as when they are malfunctioning it is nice to fall back on the old fashioned BP cuff

We have them in my LTC facility. I can count on one hand how many times that ALL the components (temp, bp and O2) have all worked at once, on one hand in the 2+ yrs I've been there.

I just much prefer to use the old fashioned BP cuff and steth (I bring my own in, and take it when I leave). I could never use the thermometer portion of our machines..they never seem to work, or they "work" but didn't give an accurate temp.

The machine we have is going for about $895.00.

Sounds like the cool equipment is sometimes unreliable. I guess we need some MORE old fashioned blood pressure cuffs and stethoscopes. We have about 2 of each for 35 residents. We have 0-4 new admissions everyday and lots of medicare charting and we do not have enough equipment.

I work on a post-surgical floor and we used to have a Dinamap to use for VS. Our fresh post-op pt's have VS taken at least q4hr and we could get up to 10 admissions on a daylight shift. It was so convenient! Unfortunately, our manager deemed it the "primary source of c. diff infections" on our unit so she removed it from the floor. Doesn't matter that it was never taken into isolation rooms. And where did she hide the "germ infested" Dinamap? Right next to her desk in her office.
