If a patient was VRE positive, and vancomycin for C/Diff Q 8 hours PO is ordered. Would you question the order?

I think I would. Don't they usu order Flagyl for C. Diff anyway?

I have had PO Vanco ordered before for C. Diff personally. It is more effective than IV Flagyl. It is the only use for PO Vanco; it is not effective if given IV for C. Diff.

I'd probably ask, but I assume the VRE is being treated with another agent, and the Vanco is for the C.diff - which I'd think was ok.

It probably is not the c-diff that is vre, and the vre is probably being treated with something else.

I would question it, if only for clarification. I don't like giving meds if there is one shred of doubt as to why/what for.
