I had the worst day.i had already been running a fever of 100.3 and been fighting off a cold. I ended up working with another nurse who had been working after being discharged from the hospital and was still ill as well. So i like an idiot Agreed to work as a team to get all Resedents in our facility taken care of. Well not only did i end up doing most of the work, but also was reamed by the scheduling coordinator because i didnt stick with my assigned group and for not calling her when i got behind with the med pass. this was my first evening shift back after working on the day shift for three weeks. I just want to scream.

So sorry you had a shift like that. I would have called in. You're no good to patients if you're sick. Get some rest and don't go back to work unless you're better. I hope you feel better really soon.

By residents, do you mean LTC? WHY are you working when you have a fever and are that sick????? It is up to your managers to make sure there is adequate staffing. You should rest and make sure YOU are healthy, both for your sake and the health of your patients. It does no one any good if you are so ill you cannot work AND you give that illness to your fragile patients. Rest and get better.

I worked once night shift so sick I could barely stand. Had a patient who went septic on me too and kept pulling out her SLs. When days finally got there I went to the ER with a temp of 103. I had strep throat. The supervisor knew I was really sick (she had to come over and restart the SLs), but another nurse had already gone home sick and there was nobody to cover.

You should have called in! You can't take care of others if you don't take care of yourself.

When I call out in LTC, I usually get a major run around and really bad attitude from scheduling. After all, your suppossed to take care of the sick, not get sick yourself! As our manual states you should only call out if running a fever over 100.0, I'm in a tuff spot. I'm one of those rare people who don't run temps, never had one never will!
