does anyones hospital use the new machine that illuminates the veins? Our hospital had an inservice on them the other day. It is very neat can see the veins good. We tried it on one of our babies. The nurse sticking said she could see where it would help, but it was going to take getting use to. She said it is a little distracting at first. Were only testing it out sooo. We have one were using for the whole hosptial now. Its a big machine that lets you see the veins. It works for adults as welll as kids. I wish we could use it on one of our really hard to stick babies and see how well it works.

do you mean a transilluminator that shines a light and "illuminates" the veins? We use them, especially our PICC nurses. They are a huge help. If they are somthing different, do you know the name of the company that makes it and we can google it?

We use the transilluminator attachment on the bili blankets all the time for IV lines/PICCs or to transilluminate a chest. I will say it kind of ruins you after you get used to using it. One of our product reps gave us a hand held mini-transilluminator a few weeks ago and we love it. It's especially nice for resting a little foot on. If a proctor say it's ok I'll post a link to it.

No we have the hand held transilluminator this is the a big machine. I will have to wait until I go back to work and get more info. on it.

I never got the hang of the translumenator but there are sm. handheld models that cost about $400. We have one and a lot of the nurses love it.

Our transport team has a small one with an LED light. It was really neat and seemed easier to handle than our heavy tubing on our transilluminator...maybe one day we will get one!!

We have the large rolling transilluminator, which many nurses prefer. Our Ohmeda bili blankets are also transilluminators, which we never use.

But my favorite is a lovely little handheld one with three red led's on it called the WeeSight. It's less than $100 and we LOVE them.

I saw that somewhere. I'd give it a try, but I am not a big fan of transluminators either. Just seem to hinder me more than help.

I like them a lot...got a hard stick kid the other day while waiting for a picc and there was a great PIV vein that I would not have seen w/o it. Once you get a handle on the kid and the tubing, it is a godsend! Wiggle worm term babies with some stregnth are another story though!!

I don't really care for transilluminators, either. But these WeeSights are really quite nice. Handheld and tiny, you can lay the baby's hand or foot right on them, they lay flat in the bed or on a surface. I can't stand wrestling with the cord, either.

Thanks for providing the website. I may have to pass this on to my NM or even the transport team. It looks very manageable, and doent look like it will blind you like the rolling transilluminator will!!!
