It could be either dilute OR too concentrated. I’ve had two ‘abnormal’ results in Affinity for being too concentrated and one ‘value out of range’ for being WAYYYY too concentrated. (Urine CRT 384.1!)
You probably have an idea of which way it’s going to be. I’m usually a little on the dry side with darker colored urine. I know TNPap looks less favorably on dilute results because they think you’re trying to flush something out of your system. Good luck and I hope it’s something simple & non-punitive.
Same thing just happened to me. I did my daily check in and saw that my last UDS from six days ago had a “value out of range” for some reason. My CM is out of office for the holiday (of course), so I’ll be left wondering for days what this means and if it’ll be looked upon unfavorably. I was already sober 18 months prior to the BON order, and I have no plans to be anything other than a model of perfection to TPAPN. (I’m 11 months in). I usually run dry (sorry, kidneys) but this sample was so light I was just staring at it from different angles as the (judgmental) lab tech did her thing. Then I spent the next 10 minutes in the car outside the lab consulting Dr. Google’s urine color charts. Seriously, the one day I was actually hydrated... Note to self: don’t have a latte anywhere near the time I go drug test. Even if it was 4 hours prior.
Anyone else live in constant fear even though you’re following each and every rule to a T AND staying sober in spite of the added stress this program has caused?
I think a lot of it depends on the program and the case manager. I’ve never gotten in trouble or had any repercussions from my abnormal urine screens. She’s like, ‘drink more water’ and that’s it. I’ve been in over 2 years with no positive screens or any work issues, I turn my stuff in on time, and communicate well with my CM, so I think that helps. I won’t live in fear. That doesn’t help at all. I started off that way and when I relaxed and adopted the attitude of ‘you’re doing everything you’re supposed to, you’re not using, stop fretting’ it was a lot smoother.
Do y’all’s drug screens take DAYS to post? The pendulum swung and my last urine (almost a week ago) looked concentrated, which is reflective of my usual state of hydration. But because the results haven’t posted, I’m a ball of nerves. I shouldn’t be worried, because there’s nothing for them to find. I find myself anxious anyway.
I had this happen twice. They said my creatinine levels were too low which constituted the OOR. I found drinking a protein shake and having no coffee/caffeinated anything prior to testing fixed this. Has not happened since. Also another tip, drinking peppermint tea and a whiff of the peppermint oil I keep I my purse before going in to actually pee makes me go more easily for those with stage fright issues like me ?
WVNurse2020 - any update?
I'm new to a year long of monitoring and have been really struggling with the urine - 1st one was dilute, next negative, 3rd "value out of range"
I think I've become sooo scared of water before testing. Hoping to find the right balance soon.
Any feedback about your interactions with your CM / testing repercussions for these "non-negative" results. So far (1 week) I haven't heard from my CM for "value out of range" and I haven't been tested again ... ?
DistressedRN - what state was your program in? I truly have no idea how to read my CM. she seems wonderful, but I'm so fearful of the whole "gotcha" angle of things ?
Support and specifics appreciated. Feel free to private message me as I would love to talk about testing specifics.
Hello! So value out of range for sure doesn’t mean positive and it may take awhile for you to figure out what to eat or drink before a test. When I had this they just gave me 3 additional urine tests that month and sent me a generic message about what to eat or drink before tests. It depends on your program though - some will give you hair or blood tests after a dilute. If you have nothing to hide I wouldn’t stress over it. If you made a mistake, learn from it. If they find a positive they will for sure give an additional five years and more treatment. Hope this helps your stress
