Sep 29, 201411 yr Hey guys ! I'm applying and I'm really nervous, but excited to start my nursing program soon. Anyone else applying to UW?
Feb 25, 201511 yr Author I wish I felt like you guys, take advantage of your free time before we hit nursing school! I work part time, try to work out and am a full time mommy :) my days are filled with non-stop craziness.
Feb 25, 201511 yr I wish I had free time...full time work and full time classes. I'll take two summer classes if I get into UW. No rest for the wicked. I can't imagine having a kiddo though. Kudos to you rococo.
Feb 25, 201511 yr I have so much respect for people like you! I knew a girl who was in a similar situation trying to get back in school, working, and being a mom of two little ones...it's not easy. I only nanny part time and that can be draining sometimes. I can agree with taking advantage of the free time. When we all get accepted, it will be two years of stress, caffeine, and no sleep. Lol. But it's all going to be worth it.
Feb 25, 201511 yr I love to read you guys' posts ☺ï¸it reminds me of how hard it was to get into nursing school and the number of sacrifices I made through out those two years. My twin boys were four years old when I first started nursing school and now they are in first grade😇Setting a routine and prioritizing my tasks were what worked best for me.Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
Feb 25, 201511 yr Author Thanks guys :) it is definitely really hard to keep us with an active little toddler, thankfully I have my husbands support behind me. Haha, yess caffeine will be what will help us survive nursing school! All this talk about starting the program gets me pumped and excited to start (even though we haven't received acceptance letters yet )bsnprg, thanks for the support! I can't even imagine what it was like having two little ones, not just one, to love while trying to focus most of your time towards nursing school. I'm sure they look up to you now.
Feb 25, 201511 yr It'll make you a stronger person. My sister was amazed how I could maneuver a double stroller with one hand 😉Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
Mar 3, 201511 yr I'm trying not to think about it, but every time my phone makes the email noise I anxiously check to see if it's an admissions blog update. You are not alone in your anticipation!
Mar 4, 201511 yr So something has has been weighing on my mind, pre-acceptance/rejection is the thought of my debt if I do get accepted and go to the UW. I'm an out of state resident and would have to work 30 hours a week to qualify as a resident in the second year. I'm not afraid of that challenge, but wonder if it's worth it in the long run... $60k in loan debt doesn't sound too appealing for undergrad, but the thought of going to UW sort of overwhelms that negative thought. Overall, if I pulled off working the 30hrs per week the first year, my loan debt would go down about $15-20k. Anyone else faced with the potential of a large debt for the dream program?
Mar 7, 201511 yr Shelley, have you applied to any scholarships? Although a lot of scholarships are due during winter months, there are plenty still available. I honestly haven't thought too much about the financial aspect of UW even though I should. I am hoping that financial aid will cover most/all of my costs(besides books) because I am low income but I know it's kind of silly to rely on that. I did apply for a few scholarships so hopefully that will help. I hate that it costs so much, so unfortunate. I don't think student loans are really fair either but that's a whole different topic lol. Perhaps your aid package from UW will give you more clarity on what option is right for you. Good luck!
