Kwezygirl: I read previously on this thread that there had been about 300 applicants for Spring 2011 and only 80 will be accepted...

Thank you for the information. I emailed a lady yesterday and she returned my email saying the same thing.

friendly terms of service reminder

a few posts have been edited to comply with the terms of service. per the terms of service of this site, please do not post names, initials, or contact information of professors or other school officials on the public board. it is better to communicate this type of information via the private message system.

as stated in the terms of service:

while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. while allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

the best to all of you! thank you for your cooperation.

Hello everyone! Anything new? :)

Haven't heard anything yet. We should be hearing from the school in the next week or so I am assuming.

My status was still "Pending" as of this morning....

When I called last week she said end of September most likely.

Nope.. Haven't heard anything yet. We should be hearing from them soon. :)

At our opening ceremony yesterday, they went over the statistics of past semesters and said that they were planning on admitting 80 accelerated students into the Spring 2011 program and 60 traditional .

Take this with a grain of salt, as things are always changing.

What is the difference between the accelerated and the traditional program? Is accelerated the one which is 15 months long whereas tranditional is longer?

Also, do you know how many students were accepted for fall 2010? I know they had over 600 applications..

117 students were accepted for fall 2010 traditional program- UTMB's biggest class yet. When we were applying we heard of everything from 80 to 100 people would be accepted and it turned out to be much more. It all depends on how many clinical sites they can get and how many instructors are available.

The difference between the traditional (sometimes called generic) and the accelerated program is a degree. In order to get into the accelerated program you have to have a bachelor's degree in any other area all ready. Some people who were granted admission to our class were later offered acceptance into the accelerated program even though they didn't apply.
