UTEP or Texas Tech

I am also wondering about UTEP's BSN degree. This school seems to have a terrible reputation for all other majors and is to be avoided like the plague according to some colllege reveiw websites, but I want to believe that nursing departments are different due to better funding. I really need advise on whether to pursue UTEP, any knowledge would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Utep came in top 3 in nclerx passing rate in 2008 behind UT Austin and some other school. According to that its a really good program.

UTEP is not a bad school. But El Paso is bleh...

If you are considering UTEP, why not consider NMSU? I do believe they allow El Paso residents to pay in-state tuition.

Is anyone here going to or has gone to UTEP for nursing? How was over there? I have been admitted to BSN but is still debating on it. I heard the school has bad reputation...please help. I have few days to send a response

i am applying at texas tech (rn to bsn) for the spring 2010 start. i just had my transcripts evaluated ..unofficially of course. i don't know much about utep but everything i have read about tech has been good. i am applying to texas woman's as well but they are my alma mater...i wish you luck..

Utep has been doing really well on the NCLEX the last two years good enough to be second or third in the state. Although i hear complains from hospitals about UTEP nurses calling them lazy and unprepared. But its not a bad school unless they totally fall on their face. The last two years they have had real good NCLEX rates you might want to check the BON website.

I'm a UTEP nursing student:nurse: and the school and/or program doesn't make the UTEP graduates lazy or unprepared. The person is the one who is lazy. And I don't know why you would say UTEP graduates are unprepared if the NCLEX success rate is 96% (in the first attemp). The fact is that most people that apply to UTEP get rejected so people start bad mouthing the program. Most student are prepared and by the time they graduate the remaining students that have not been thrown out the program for their grades are well prepared. No matter where you go some nurses will be lazy or unprepared, but that doesn't mean its the schools fault. I have seen nurses from EPCC or NMSU that have been working for years and they seem like they know what they are doing but in reality are practicing their procedures wrong. So before you say UTEP nurses are lazy and unprepared, next time please gets your facts straight

Hello scholars,

After I obtained my ADN from Odessa College, I attended Texas Tech health sciences center in Odessa. There were 3 campuses involved - Odessa, Lubbock and Quero campus in Victoria. The class of 2000 was the first class to be completely online with the exception of an occasional exam or video conference. Our clinicals were done in our respective communities. I personally enjoyed the curriculum. It is way different from ADN school. I took the one-year program because I wanted to be DONE! The RN-BSN program at TT is Fall & Spring if you choose the one-year program or one can do the traditional 2-year program.

I am now enrolled in the graduate MSN program at UT El Paso and participate in classes online via Elluminate and work is posted on the UTEP blackboard. I only have to go to El Paso for nursing orientation in August. It is a really good program and I have enjoyed it thus far. I will graduate in December of 2011. There are a minimum of tech difficulties and the staff at UTEP have been available via email or phone with any concerns. I say go for it! Thank you all for the info (haven't been on here for a while). I actually got into UT-Houston at the last minute, and I am 4 days from being done (wheew!!). UTEP's nursing program is actually good for anyone considering it.

Now onto NCLEX and Jobs!!

Congratulations! There is actual life after nursing school and it is awesome! Take a breather, get some experience and start work on your masters. It is an awesome experience as well.
