Alas! Here I go again!;) This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!:D

hello all.

congrats to all who got into apbsn! I was denied even though i have a 4.0 science, 3.8 overall and 92 on HESI and know have no more classes to take in spring. The AP "sales person" NEVER mentioned that Partnering was such a factor of acceptance...I would have worked harder a 1yr ago when I started the program. Is there an appeal process we can do before the nursing advisory board....?

Thanks to AvJk & lagremillion...great info! I now have another question for those partnered...does your employing hospital require you to stay employed with them now that you have been accepted (I know THR does have that contract but really more interested in the other participating hospitals) and if you choose to quit; can you still start the program come Jan? Thanks!

@tejas03 - there is no contract with THR for getting into the program. If you decide to do LINC or use tuition reimbursement then you have a set amount of time you have to work for them or if you chose to leave you have to pay back your schooling. You have to stay employed through the start date of clinicals but once they start you are not required to maintain employment. Of course they would like you to but it is not something that determines you staying in the program. You do have to maintain your employment through the start of clinicals but after that you do not. However, from my experienence working in the hospital gives you such good knowledge of how things flow outside of the textbook nursing school and it helps you make connections for future job possibilities. If you want to work in critical care or a specific specialty I would HIGHLY recommend getting in with a unit and getting to know people throughout nursing school, just my opinion though! Hope this helps!

So I have been reading back through the post from yesterday and I cannot believe advisors didnt stress that being partnered is such a factor. I mean the AP in the "AP BSN" program stands for Academic "Partnership". I thought at first you had to be partnered to even apply since we apply through our education departments but when I started reading this I realized anyone could apply. I would take it up with your advisor (if they are still around) at UTA.

When I initially applied, I thought that AP stood for Accelerated Program.

When I first applied, my "salesperson" told me that Tx Children's was a partner hospital in Houston and totally sold me on the online aspect of the program. I was never told that I needed to work for a hospital, ever.

If you're on the wait list for Houston then there will be a spot opening up because I'm going to decline my acceptance and go with UT Houston.

Oh ok so was she partnered last semester?

@lena22. Omg so she was not selected last semester?! Was she partnered last semester?

Question:Was there anybody that was partnered last semester -on waiting list that didn't get in??

I work with someone who did not get in first time around and was put on waiting list second time around and DID get in and is partnered with THR and has been the entire application process. I dont know about being waitlisted, partnered and not geting in but I do know people who are partnered and didnt get in.

Oh ok that makes me feel better ....thx

Question for those taking Path (or those who have taken Path) with Stephens - is she going to open the previous tests for review? I can not find anywhere in the syllabus that would help me find that information.

Thanks so much.
