UTA FALL 2012

Hey all, I thought I would set up a place to discuss the next application period for UTA's Fall 2012 nursing program. There was so much info in the Spring 2012 forum, thought it might be helpful to start a new thread...

Post away!

N/m! I forgot you had already posted yours! A 3.7 is a great GPA! Better than mine!

I'm applying for the traditional program. My Science gpa is 4.0 and overall is 3.69. It seems like the majority of people on allnurses apply for the AP one.

Yea...I am doing it because it will work better with my home life and work. I have 2 boys, a husband and I work full time so an online base program is the best way for me to go!

I had originally planned on applying to the ADN program at el centro but got an email about the UTA program last spring and decided that would be the best option for me. I took 6 classes the summer immediatly following and then took 9 classes( 5 at TCC 4 at UTA!) over the fall in order to be able to make this deadline! It was freaking insane but somehow I managed to make it out with all great gardes! I am really wishing I would have taken school more seriously my first couple semsters becasue I would have a near 4.0 now if I had! Oh well if I don't get in I will retake those classes over the coming up summer and apply again!

I'm really impressed! You will get there.

Thanks! I sure hope so! I think you will get in as well!

Hey guys and gals...just stopped in to read some of the forum postings...

Those of us starting on Jan 23 are gearing up to get going...

As promised, I want to try and share some random facts and thoughts for all of you that are going to be applying and hopefully starting in the Fall 2012 (I know you are all going to get in - thinking positive helps - look at my frantic thread postings in Spring 2012 haha)...I always thought information is power and knowing everything you can helps, even the littlest detail to someone is huge to someone else...so...

Once accepted - there is a lot of work to do to get "cleared" for registration (Immunizations, back ground check, drug test, an online orientation course, etc.) - everyone attends an in-person orientation (in their own areas DFW, Houston, etc) and it is an all day thing and jammed packed with fun facts and information, it's almost surreal to sit in the room with 100 folks, many of whom have communicated on this site, encouraged and given advice on this site...so please know the value of sharing and communicating with each other here. I went into orientation and "knew" several folks - just from here...it is amazing! The books cost atleast $800-1100 dollars...prepare for that. Scrubs and lab coats, software and PDA - get you an ipad2 or iphone - they are the best, the most compatable and are required (the pda/spartphone is required). I have an ipad2 and the ebooks work great so far, have been exploring them and I know a lot of folks had wished the had gotten a ipad or iphone prior to getting accepted because of all the costs to getting started for the semester and many devices don't work as well as apple (I think droids are a proving a little more difficult to use).

Please feel free to ask whatever you like...I think one of the things we lacked in the UTA Spring 2012 forum was folks blogging as they went through the program...after seeing the schedule - I now know why...BUT, I am going to do my best to periodically post and if anyone has questions, try and answer them where I can and to the best of my knowledge...keep the faith, you will get in, work hard and everything will fall into place!!!

Thank you for all the wonderful information BJBAILEY!! I look forward to your post when you get a chance. Thanks for the heads up on some of the things we will need once we get in! I'm glad you mentioned the Iphone and IPAD info becasue I have an upgrade in march and currently have a droid! I was also considering getting a droid powered tablet but will now get an IPAD instead! Thanks again for your adive! Good luck on your first day next week!

For those of us partnered with THR they are actually having us turn in alot of the documentation needed for the program before hand. I have already turned in everything except my CPR certification which i need to get sometime soon!

I do have ipad 2! Do you use physical book or ebook? What apps are you using for nursing?

I am using the e-books for my first semester...I'll update you all on what I think of them at end of the first 14 weeks. I will tell you out the gate that so far I love them. There are approximately 12 or so books for this semester (7 or 8 of them are electronic) so you can imagine how nice it is to not have to lug all of those around to a coffee shop or work or even at home. I simply pull out my ipad and read. Elsevier uses pageburst for your desktop and vitalsource bookshelf for your iphone and ipad - the apps are not as friendly as ibook, but you can highlight the text and the books are downloadable to one desktop and 2 devices I think, it may be 2 desktops too... so you don't require internet to read. Unfortunately only the non-downloaded versions translate highlighting..so, you should find your mail device or desktop and try to do all your highlighting there.. I am learning that I am only using my ipad as my main "textbook" and will utilize the online versions or my iphone strictly for reference.

Hi All! I am also applying to UTA for Fall 2012 for both AP and the Traditional track. I'm not partnered and like most people have discovered late in the game that this is a big obstacle for the AP program :(. I have also applied to TWU Fall 2012 as a back-up. :) I am done with everything except Tech Writing, Patho, Pharm, and Intro (taking Patho, Tech writing, and Intro this sem). My Stats are as follows with no additional considerations:

Science: 4.0

Overall: 3.7

HESI: 93 overall

Now its time to wait... :)

Welcome Cluman! You have very good stats! So did anyone get their confirmation of application letter.

I was offered a job that pays more and is closer to my house today at a different partnered hospital. Since I already have my application turned in would I be able to take the job and still be considered "partnered" for this application period....Does anybody know the answer to this? I don't want to ask my Rep at THR because I am hoping to be able to take the job and somehow slip thru the cracks! I am hoping they don't go back and verify that I still work there since I submited my app directly to my employers UTA rep....I would hate to tae the other job and not be considered for this semester though.
