USVI on St.Thomas

Published

I am a pre-nursing student at the University of Michigan and I basically have all my prerequisites finished. I have not taken the entrance test yet because I'm considering moving out of the states and experiencing life on the island as a pre-nursing student. I was considering transfering to University of the Virgin Island, but was not sure, like if I ever wanted to come back to the states to work as a nurse would it be a problem, being that I would have graduated from UVI's nursing program. Any information would be useful.;)

Thanks everyone!!!

If you want to experience island life and go to nursing school, there is a nursing school in St. Kitts called International University of Nursing.

Specializes in Junior Year of BSN.

I don't think it would be a problem since USVI and Puerto Rico are territories of the US. You could contact the school and your states BON.

Specializes in Certified Nurse-Midwife.

It wouldn't be a problem. UVI is an NLN accredited school and you are eligible to take the NCLEX.

:nuke:Thank you so much for replying!

I wanted to go there because it is so state of the art, but it's really expensive and you can't get financial aid because it's not in the states. There aren't any dorms. You still have to do your last year in the states. A lot of people said don't go there. I don't know why.

Since they offer no financial aid, what other options are ther available? Would I have to take student loans for the entire time there or would i need to find employment? It sounds like a really good school other than that. Is housing and residency easy to establish since there is not dorms.... Thanks so much for the reply!!

Just curious of the age range because im just turning 30! Are there older students there at the St. Kitts Nursing school?

I was talking about the IUON. If I remember correctly, you can't get financial aid there. You would have to take out loans. I decided against it because it's around $40,000 vs. $10,000 where I live. I think they have some sort of housing system where they have a list of available rentals. You would have to get a visa. If you search IUON you can find people who went there and ask them about it.

Thanks!

My wife is a pre nursing student and due to long waiting lists at nursing schools she is seeking a transfer to UVI, st thomas. It is a part of the US so you ARE eligable for financial aid. Just fill out your fafsa. There is even special federal funding avilable for nurses. And there are dorms 4 buildings worth to be exact. The cost of tuition per semester is 5,197 for a non resident and the room charge is only 1,200 a semester slightly more for a single room. It is the cheapest school we have found and the only one with no waiting list! My wife has a 3.4 gpa and is still having trouble getting in other places! go to www.uvi.edu and do some reserch for yourself. Me and my wife will be attending fall 09, I am taking marine biology and she will be getting her BSN. Hope to see you on the beach!!!!:yeah::yeah::yeah:
