Has anyone had any experience with UNLV's traditional BSN program? I'm a CA native and was attracted to its "year round" curriculum...meaning that I could complete my clinical portion in sixteen months...is this a bad idea? I plan to visit UNLV sometime in the next few months to get my own opinion, but figured I would post to see if anyone could give me some insight.
Thank you all for your help,
Michelle :)

I have been told by SO MANY PPL to stay away from UNLV. My personal experience with them...I droped. I'm at CCSN and might transfer to Nevada State Henderson to complete the BSN...they just seem to have a better program even though it's new.
Just my opinion...I know there are ppl out there who think it's fine.
Thank you so much iliel. I'll definately take your advice into consideration...too many choices for schools and this board really has helped me narrow down my choices. Its so hard to get to know a school through a brochure or even from a campus visit, so advice from others is definately needed!
Thanks again,
no prob michelle...there are a lot of choices out there! I will say this, UNLV is a great school for a lot of things but I just ran into a NP the other day that said to steer away from UNLV (I was in jurry duty!) Nevada State Henderson I really liked, plus it's only 70 bucks a unit (for instate)

Iliel, I didn't know that Nevada State Henderson offers a nursing program. The cost of UNLV is almost double that of CCSN.

Michelle,
I myself will be attending UNLV next year. I'm also attracted to the 16 month completion time. I'm not too worried about what people say about the program, as it is accredited, and different people like different things about their programs. I lookied into Nevada State, but I'm a little nervous since it hasn't had a graduating class yet (brand new school). THe other drawback of it being new, is that I'm not sure if it has qualified for the federal loan programs or not.
Coming from cali, you would qualify for the Western Undergraduate Exchange tuition rate, which is I think 130 per credit. It's going to actually cost me LESS to go to UNLV than to a local CC in Wa.
By the way, here are the latest NCLEX pass rates for nevada schools :)

you have to scroll down for a while to get to the pass rates. Hope this helps :)
Thank you so much, dietryin. I also looked in to the Nevada State Henderson program and was kind of weary since it wasn't yet accredited by either the NLNAC or AACN (they were on the list for pre-accreditation, and who knows how long that will take)! I think i'll go and have to see UNLV myself to find out it if it fits me best. And, I'll definately check into their policy to see if CA residents are part of the Western Exchange program. UNLV's program sounds good, since they were just recently offered full accreditation, but I don't know about living like 2 minutes away from the strip...it might be a huge culture shock for me...or maybe not...after all I do live in Southern California!!

I'm a CCSN LPN grad (hubby was stationed at Nellis for a year!) Absolutely excellent school. Very easy to bridge into an ADN program in Indianapolist when we moved. I've been an RN for 10 years now and CCSN really provided a good foundation for nursing. Take care and good luck. BTW I'm in a BSN/MSN combo program now.
Yes, they are so wonderful over there! small classes and great staff! It's on their website http://www.nsh.nevada.edu I just applied to the school so if for some reason I don't get into the RN at CCSN I'm just going to go for the BSN right off the bat.

I think there is a seperate exchange for Ca...that's what I was on. It's in between the in state and the WUE or WEU...what ever it's called. The CA program is the good neighbor CA program. I can't remember.
Anyway, NSH is getting approved before their first graduating class...this is what I was told. CCSN has had the accredidations the longest ( I don't know if their program has been around longer or not). It's good to check into all the school.

Will NSH have their first graduating class this year? I'm going to be finishing pre reqs while at UNLV, so I can get a feel for what people are saying about the various programs.
What are the bad things you've heard? Why did you choose to leave?

Ya know, I don't know. I think it matters where they took ppl to start. they could if they started the nursing program from the transfers. Next fall will be the two year ani of the school. Also, all the schools in Nevada are run by the same regents..all the CC's and Univ's.
