I've officially applied for Nursing now! Put in my application today, so now just have to wait for the results. Should hear back around November I hope. I'm going to do it via distance education through UniSA as I'll be living in Tasmania by the time I start and it won't be too much of a flight (at least in comparison to what I usually do).
Fingers crossed!!!!

Hey you Sassy lady!
Well done! You have taken a big step forward. You have opened up the doors to a career that can have many, many ups and downs, but can be very rewarding.
Just remember: how you manage your nursing career is up to you, and that you alone are responsible for your practice as a professional Registered Nurse.
And one more thing: don't take any s**t from some of the lecturers there - there were quite a few times I had to argue re grades, and some of the lecturers were not good at all. Join a student union if you can (they didn't help me much but they can offer some support). And buy your books early b4 they are all sold out!
Now I've stopped nagging, good luck and let us know how you go.
I will say a big prayer for you tonight!!
Luv Carol
Hey C
Where are you applying? Good luck, I reckon you will be OK. I'm struggling a bit with my studies, took a few days off to get my assignment done but it should be pretty much finished today.
Where are you going to do your clinicals?
Email me privately if you want.
Seeya!

Thanks Carol. I'm hoping that I will be able to find some work within the Health Care scope while I'm studying. I'm looking every day for jobs within Health Care. Admin/PCA whatever. I also have some contacts so maybe they'll be able to help me too. One friend works at a hospital and another works at an Aged Care Home.
Hope your assignments are going well.
I have an interview already, applied online and got a turnaround email wanting me to pick an interview time near Christmas, hope this is a good sign!!
Hi C
Great news!! I'm so happy for you.
I too went for an interview at a private gastro clinic - very swish and VERY exclusive. The surgeon who started it is a world leader in procedures such as endoscopies and colonoscopies, and he patented a whole new computer program to book the theatres. I'm going to be doing all the reception/admin/clerical/billing and theatre coordination. I will also be assisting as an RN and learning how to do biopsies. The NM rang me last night, and I was so excited I couldn't sleep (my eyes are hanging out of my head!) I start early tomorrow.
I have a strong feeling/intuition that you will be successful for this, and my feelings are NEVER wrong, ie: contacted my ex-boyfriend interstate cos I swore something was wrong/had happened to him; had been feeling this for a month or so. We chatted and he said nothing bad has happened, then when we talked a bit more he told me he accidentally crashed his car and wrote it off (a month or so ago!)
Seriously, they would not get you to pick an interview time unless they were REALLY interested in your application, as so many people put forward applications now.
I will cross all my fingers and toes 4 u!

Hope your right!!! yeah, there's a high number of applications for every job nowadays.
I have been mentoring students and they are really concerned about getting grad positions over here now. Makes me mad that we import nurses with no experience when our own new grads cannot get work.

Yes I agree! There are too many nurses struggling out there. Well I just hope that the economy gets better and picks up with the Gillard gov't in - they are supposed to be pouring ++ money into health, and mental health. I went and looked at the new hospital here in WA and it is going to be HUUUGE.
I feel sorry for some of the young ones coming out who can't get jobs - at least I have SOME experience and other work experience to fall back on, but these kids don't. It must be very disheartening.
Well better get back to study (*sigh*)

PS: our weather here to day is GLORIOUS and I have to stay inside!
Yay! Good work and good luck!
