Ugh, the MUSIC!!!

This is just a vent, there is no solution for this...

Overnight peeps... do any of your clients have the same playlist of music (lullabies, in my case) that runs over and over and over? Every night? Don't these kids get sick of this music? Gah!!!

I also have a ct who's parents have a country music station on for her all the time, which I do not care for, to put it mildly. It plays hits in high rotation, so I end up having the country top 40 in my head all the time! ("Chew tobacco, chew tobacco, chew tobacco, spit!" Pure poetry.) Amusingly, I can get that client to stop crying only when I sing Red Hot Chili Peppers songs, so there's hope for this one. :D

Oh, dear. I may have lost "awesome mom" status. I had 3 lullaby CDs that I rotated but they weren't 24/7. Nurses were allowed to turn them off and turn on the radio (no hip-hop/R&B and no country because I don't like them and didn't want to hear it over the monitor) or the TV.

Yep, I've had those parents. Can't stand it. I don't mind music for a child. But the same music over and over or only one station is awful. I hate country music, but I live in the south. I get stuck with it a lot.

You didn't lose awesome mom status. One case I worked the NOC shift on, this is what I dealt with

✔The soundtrack to "St. Elmo's Fire" on repeat the entire 8 hours

✔Being on camera and the chair provided was horribly uncomfortable

✔Minimal light

✔The uncle would creepily walk into the room and scare the skittles out of me.

No ventmommy, you're still great! Actually you seemed too good to be true, so this "normalizes" you! Three CD's are better than one, but I'm sure your nurses had them all memorized! One of my ct's playlists is on an iPod with about 50 songs, but after a few years you still learn them all!

Wow. Sorry about that! That's awful!

It was horrid. I believe I had one or two other choices but they were worse

Never ran into a playlist but did run into a lot of noise machines. Which I actually like and use myself to help sleep BUT working nocs and listening to rain/thunder/white noise/womb sounds...makes me sleepy even thinking about it.

a question from one of them boys 'round here who likes ice cold beer

would wearing earphones with quiet music of your preference interfere with work

such as hearing alarms?

Private duty means dealing with lots of different tastes in music, especially kiddie music. I've become a big fan of The Wiggles (though 3 of them retired last year), and I have a grudging respect for Barney. I used to hate him, until I discovered even worse kiddie DVDs, like Boobah and Teletubbies. I usually put on PBS Kids; some parents like it, some think it's "too liberal".

I had a peds case that didn't work out, and it left me with a violent hatred of Baby Einstein. I like classical, but Baby Einstein is to classical what Muzak is to music. The parents also liked Baby First TV, which I found bizarre and unnerving.

One of my adult clients listens to the radio every waking hour, either the Fundy Preacher network or Rush Limbaugh. The Fundy Preachers can be interesting (my mother was a Fundy, so I'm used to it), but Rush is terrible. I have another client whose family vacillates between country and the Top 40 station.

I will often watch a movie or listen to a concert on YouTube with one ear bud on low volume. I always must have at least one ear tuned in since the child is trached. Actually I seldom have both buds going even when I'm not at work. I dislike not hearing what's happening around me, it feels creepy.

Why do dem boys 'round here sing about being a redneck like it's a good thing? "I'm about to get my redneck on"? "Gonna shine my headlights in your bedroom window"? Sounds like a scary stalker to me, and I'll betcha he's got a gun there!

I filled in on a case once where the mom allowed only religious music. She expected the same 3 CDs to be played continuously. Drove me nuts! It was the longest 12 hours ever!

LOL! Too funny.
