UCSF CNM program

Hello all! I am new to this site. My burning question has to do with my application to the UCSF CNM program. I applied for the fall 2008 program and have not heard back yet. I have called and they said they have no information. They cannot even tell me when they will be sending out letters to applicants. Does anyone know when I should expect a response? Has anyone received a letter of acceptance? The lady on the phone sort of hinted that this year is unusual. Is something up with the midwifery program?

I am also interested in getting some tips to increase my acceptance into the UCSF program or simply externship and residency for an RN. i am just starting my ABSN in August 2009, I will be finished in December 2010, but I am already looking ahead at summer externships and residencies at UCSF and the CNM program. Can anyone who got into their program or work for them give me some of their stats. I read on the website that they want a 3.5 GPA and great clinical references. Is Spanish still necessary? thanks so much! i really want to work in L & D.

Threads merged, as they are essentially about the same thing. :)

For those of who in northern/central california/bay area. UCSF midwifery program DOES have distance learning....In the FAQs, they state that they try to make it so that most can be done in the student's hometown, while traveling to SF only 1 day/week.:yeah:

After speaking with someone about the program, she stated that people who apply generally have about 5 years experience in L&D. She also stated knowing Spanish is very important, although not necessary. I know they have books that are specific to Obstetric Nursing spanish phrases.

here is a book from amazon...

It's only $6. There is a OB specific section....at least it's a start.

BTW, how do you merge threads?

thanks

5 years! wow. I have looked at another distance program and the minimum was 1 year. hmmm. that is great to hear that i would only have to commute 1 day a week. i'd like to stay in my sunny hometown. lol

Just to clarify, she said there is not actually a minimum, but the AVERAGE is 5 years. It is a very competitive program.

Let me know if you find out anything interesting...good luck!

ok thank you!
