UAB FNP Program

I am interested in the UAB on-line FNP program. Is there anyone who can give me some info on it? I know UAB is a leading school, but am curious about the on-line program. Does it adequately prepare students to work as an FNP? Is the staff supportive and available to students? Also, how is the interview process?

Thanks!

Online learning material is same as in class...you just don't have to waste time driving, parking, dealing with other nutty students, etc.. I'm doing the UAB FNP post-masters and have no problem with UAB. The faculty are very helpful and supportive. I've done the pathophysio and pharm courses. I dropped out last fall since my clinical sites fell through but now that problem is solved, I'm reactivating my admission.

Hey. Thanks for the info.! I completed my BSN through The University of Wyoming and the supportive staff made all of the difference. Good luck with clinicals!

Hi there!! I too have been doing my FNP online through UAB. I am taking this semester off though due to some personal things I have going on right now. I have 4 semesters left in the program and have never had a problem.

The class work is the same as being in class, sometimes you will feel that it is overwhelming, because you feel alone, or have so much to read, but trust me........everyone else is feeling the same. you still line up your clinicals where you live, so you do get the hands on clinical time.

There is a required 3 days on campus during the first clinical class, but other than that..........its all online............. Love it!!

Cardio, what do you do during the three days? I was told it's some kind of lab checkoff.

Hey there............

It is a lab check off. It is the semester when you take Diagnostics and Assessment. It is 3 days of doing a physical assessment, on adult, children and infants........plus some other little check offs, they will give you a scenario and you have to do the assessment, then write the SOAP note, and your prescriptions if needed......... that kind of thing.

Thanks Cardio...and Bunny I didn't have to do an interview. I'm guessing because I'm out of the country plus doing post-masters FNP.

University of Alabama? Alberta? Does anyone have a link to the program?

Thanks CardioTrans!

It is so good to know that others have had a good experience with this program! It is such a big decision to go back to school and then to decide which school to attend is important, too. The three days don't sound so bad.

Thanks for all of your responses!!

I am applying for Fall 2011 at UAB for FNP. I am thinking of taking classes this summer as a non-degree graduate student to get ahead. Has anyone else done this? Any advice on what classes to take ahead of time or any advice at all on UAB's program would be VERY appreciated!! Thanks

I will be attending my first onsite clinical visit at UAB in 2 weeks. I am being tested during my health assessment class. They have been working with us so that we will be prepared. Having said that I am still nervous.:uhoh3:
