TWU's online FNP Spring 2021 program

Posted

Hi everyone!

I just got accepted to Texas Woman's University's online FNP Program that starts Spring 2021. I was wondering who else is out there that plans on starting the program.

Also, any current students who have tips/general advice about the program would be greatly appreciated. Excited and nervous to start this journey!

Hello!

I just applied yesterday and I am kind of nervous.  I feel like I may be a little late applying.   How long did it take for you to hear back with the acceptance letter?

I also feel like I did things a little backwards.   I applied, but haven’t had the phone meeting with advisor, but it has been scheduled for tomorrow.

What additional paperwork do they request?

Do you mind telling me your last 60cr GPA was? And experience?

I applied third week in August, I still haven't heard anything yet. I got my BSN through TWU and my last 60 is horrible. I did speak to the adviser and she said I was kinda late in applying and it is more like first come first serve. But alot of times, people drop at the last minute and we may get in. So it is possible that we may be getting notifications very late. :(

Congrats! May I ask how long did you wait before getting the acceptance status? Really hope to get in for Spring 2021 :(

@ItzNikki I went to TWU for my BSN too!

That’s the same I have been thinking.  Maybe it is first come, first served.  When I spoke to the advisor he made it sound like there was still hope.  Supposedly they have received 250 application, but can only admit 120.

Knowing that people have been accepted since this Summer makes me very nervous.  My GPA in my last 60 was barely enough to meet the requirement.

Are you going to apply to any other programs?

@Bedaws

Wow I didn't know people got accepted since Summer? no wonder adviser said I was late. Hmmm but 250 applicants isn't too bad though and I do see people that got in Spring 2021 was offered to start in fall 2020 also.  I remember our BSN program had ALOT more applicants. I wish they would accept more students 😂

I also applied to TWU houston program but I picked online program as my first choice. I am also looking to apply to UTA, chamberlain & waldern but since they have second start date, I decided to wait for TWU first before I apply to other schools.

How about you? Have you applied elsewhere? Did the adviser tell you when you will be expecting to hear back?

@ItzNikki

I applied to UTA.  But TWU is my first choice.

The adviser told me that maybe in about a month. However,  I didn’t talk to the lady who usually does the initial interviews.  The adviser I talked to was just covering for her, since she had been out of the office for a few days.

So it makes me wonder now if he truly did know About time frames or if he was just giving it his best guess.

@Bedaws

Ah okay, good to know.  Hope we get in somewhere.. I will keep you posted once I hear back from them.

I applied earlier this month and just found out I was accepted for the Spring 2021 term. I honestly thought this semester would have been full.

I found out on Monday through my email, and then they called me on Tuesday. They wanted to make sure I was interested by October 5th, because they had a waitlist.

I hope you hear something soon.

Found out last week I was accepted to TWU Houston campus hybrid program. Not sure how different it is to the online program.

Congratulations!  I’m glad you got in 😊.

I should’ve applied to the Houston campus.

I talked to the enrollment advisor last week, and she said that they had pretty much selected the the accepted students before I applied.

she told me my application hasn’t even been opened/reviewed.

I was accepted at a different program.

she told me not to lose hope.  That a number of students do not attend for whatever reason.

So, I’m still hopeful.  If not the Spring, hopefully in the Summer.  But in the meantime, I am in a program.

@Bedaws

Thank you! Yes it make sense since everyone wants to do the online program definitely fills up quicker and more competitive. I am glad we are all accepted somewhere and congratulations to you as well!! You can also transfer later or start in Summer if you really want attend TWU. Good thing about NP programs is they are really flexible so either way will work out for you! 🙂 Gluck with whatever you decide and if you ever joins TWU’s program let me know if there’s anything I can help with!

Hi @ItzNikki!

so I got to e-mailing and applying for the Summer at TWU Houston and was accepted and offered the Spring semester.

I am really excited!

but I really don’t know much about the program as far as which classes are online and which ones are in person.

Do you know any of this info??

@Bedawsyay!! Congrats and welcome! I am so happy for you. So exciting we get to start the program together and in the same class! I was told by my old school mate that all first year courses are online. I also looked in registering for class and saw most of our courses before specialty courses are online too. I think we will be taking theory and patho for first semester. Also Our orientation is scheduled  next Tuesday 27th on zoom. Email me at n.zhang@live.com we can communicate easier that way!

I got accepted for Spring 2021 at the Denton Campus. I started a FB page last week for students in that cohort who want to help support each other. I just started the page last week. Look up TWU FNP Spring 2021

Hi, I'm not in the FNP program/didn't apply, but my mom is currently in the all online FNP program. She is able to manage working part-time while in the program (she could probably do full time but she doesn't want to add more stress). I am only commenting on this thread to say: the pharmacology class that is in the 2nd or 3rd semester is absolutely horrible. Watching my mom go through this class (as a nursing student myself) has been rough. The professor does not give or post any supplemental material (powerpoints, notes, etc.). He simply tells the class which chapters are going to be on the next exam and holds zoom sessions for questions I believe. His exams typically include an obscene number of chapters (10+) and you're essentially teaching yourself while reading the textbook. I have personally sat in for one of the zoom sessions, and he has been extremely rude and dismissive. When someone asks a question for clarification, he would reply with things like "you should know that so I'm not answering it" or "Refer to your textbook" but would never actually answer the questions some students had. Because most people in the program with my mom are still working as well, they have found it easiest to make a group and divide up the chapters for each person to take notes for and then share it with the group, so that you don't waste as much time. EX: 18 chapters on exam 1, group of 6 people, each person reads & takes good notes for 3 chapters and then they all share. That has seemed to help her anxiety a little bit. But, he only leaves his exams open for 24 hours (and I mean 12:00am to 11:59pm). He did not open canvas up for students until the 1st day of class this semester (so they couldn't see their schedule or required textbook, etc) and they had their 1st exam 2 weeks in I believe. This caused a LOT of problems for the students because a lot of them (my mom included) were scheduled to work that day (because you guys know how nursing schedules work, 1 month at a time) and there was nothing they could do about it. He told them it was open for 24 hours so they would have time to take the exam AFTER they finished their shifts, and refused to move it to a different day or allow certain students to take it on their day off. The next part I'll make short: exam scores were bad, multiple people emailed him to ask him to post supplemental material or literally anything else to help and he kept saying no. A student typed up a document detailing everything that was concerning/frustrating to the class, the entire class signed it virtually, and I believe she sent a copy of it to the dean or the head of the department (I'm not sure). I don't know what happened from there, but I do know that nothing has changed in terms of how many chapters they get per exam, the exam time format, and the lack of other materials. I'm not trying to scare/discourage anyone, I'm just trying to warn you guys so you don't end up getting screwed over by him, and so you can hopefully have a plan for how yall want to tackle his class (in groups, alone, etc), and to be aware of the potential work conflict with that first exam.

Other than that novel, she likes the FNP program so good luck to everyone that was accepted!! Don't let bad professors discourage you!! You're all going to be amazing.
