Tried and tested method to make hours up.....

Hi,

I'm now qualified, but will fall foul of the required hours needed to move to the US as a nurse. I've searched the forums and understand that this is a problem, but I am unable to find a solution to make the deficit up. I understand this may be costly, e.g. traveling to the US and attending courses at my own cost. But, I have not seen any real life solutions to do this. Is there a way bar doing each separate branch (18 months each!!) in the UK? I have support from my wife and family and the money to fund this, but can't find a route to do it. Any help?

three hard years of scrimping and doing without. There is no way to make this up? Surely someone has encountered this problem and overcome it....

the best thing to do is get the full course CES with CGFNS and see where you are short, some newly qualified have done this and have met requirements. Then it may be just a case of making either no hours up or not as many as you believe you do. You could do the 18 month course here in the UK but generally they require secondment and could take years to do it and may be easier although a little bit expensive to do it in the US. The thing with the US and finding a school of nursing which will allow you to fit in as a guest just for the hours you require may not be as expensive as you think

I know someone has posted in the past about a legitimate university in Canada that caters for this. You do the theory on-line & then travel over to do the practical. Cost depends on how many areas you need to make up hours in etc. Try searching something like - Canadian university to make up hours - on here and the international forum. I know the thread exists somewhere.

Best bet is to chat to your Uni and see what hours they have recorded for you in theory/practice, if these look reasonable then, as SilverDragon suggested apply for a CES report, you may be ok re hours.

No it was definitely cited as being for making up hours for N-CLEX purposes - I just wish I had the time to look for the thread it is here somewhere!

Of course I fully agree that you should get your CES done 1st as you may find you're okay!
