Transferability of Edukan courses

I am trying to get as many classes taken online as possible due to working part-time and taking care of my kids. The less classes I have to attend, the better. I didn't know about Edukan until I saw the post about the A&P and am curious about whether or not many colleges accept those courses? I'm not worried about taking the class online because I took A&P in the past and am only re-taking it because they "expired". I am going to email the schools that I want to get into about the classes but wanted to see if anyone had good things to say about these courses being transferred.

Thanks!

Kristin

I can tell you that my school accepted my Edukan courses with no problem, and I know of a few others here who have not had problems with transferability either. Good luck!

Hi,

My school had no problem w/ the Edukan courses. The director said she doesn't care where the courses come from as long as the school is accredited. Mel

Edukan is a group of Kanas Community colleges that are all regionally accredited, so most people have little trouble transferring credit.

It is still a GOOD idea to make sure yoru school will take the online class you are considering.

With Edukan you enroll through a specific college - such as Barton County CC, Colby CC, etc. So your transcript actually comes from the school you select as your "home" school. I use Barton County and just made sure that my transferring school accepted from them. They said if they are accredited it is fine. As for A&P, Barton County requires proof of a previous general bio class before you can finalize enrollment in a course, so if for some reason you don't have that or don't want to mess with getting them the proof, you can go with Colby because they don't have the same prereqs. Just a heads-up because this spring I was trying to get them my transcripts at the last minute because I didn't know about the prereqs.

You really need to check with the colleges to see if they will accept them. I know of a few in Community California that DO NOT accept them. (yes, the transcripts say a home college, but they can tell that you don't live in those states)

C...

Going can you give specific examples of community colleges in CA that do not accept these classes? I thought that as long as classes come from an accredited institution it was all transferable.

I know that Saddleback college does NOT accept them. I checked. I guess the Dean used to be one of the science teachers, and he does not agree with online science classes. (they can tell that they are online if you were taking courses in Cali, and again at the same time in Kansas, Arizona, Colorado, etc)

They accept hybrid classes (lectures online and in person labs) Note: this was as of last May.. .they may have changed.. point is, you would need to check with the colleges that you want to apply to see if they accept online science courses. (esp. since the courses are so expensive)

Thanks for the info Going! I will be sure to take my classes at my local community college. I'm almost done though. Taking A&P 2 now and will take Micro in the summer next year. I'm high on the list to take classes so I can actually make it into the class now! :) But this is all good to know for other students. I bet not everyone is savvy to the fact that you can get these classes online however and most people would be able to take them and it would be ok. But everyone should check and make sure.

Personally, my A&P1 class would have been good online. We never touched a thing in lab. We did everything on power point and memorized from there. Then went to lab where we had pictures of all the bones and muscles and downloaded it onto our flash drives and took it home to study. So we studied from pictures basically. It was a great way to go. I think it's a darn shame if those online Anatomy classes are not accepted at some places. :(

If you have to have a hybrid course, Edukan's Microbiology class is like this. 2 times during the semester you either go to campus or have a cooperating lab in your area where you do them.

I would like to know if anyone has taken Fundamentals of chemistry or Chem I through Edukan? if so, how was your experiecnce?

You need to check with your school. I live in ks and contacted neosho county community college to ask the same question. This school said absoultly yes, that edukan.org was an accredited college.

good luck:specs:
