Transfer/Switch schools mid-program?

Has anyone ever transferred mid-way through their nursing program? How easy/hard was it to adjust to the new program/school's methods and procedures?

I have an opportunity to move closer to family and save a buttload of money in the process. I'm just starting my 2nd semester of a 2-year program and would be continuing on in the 2nd year of a 2yr program in the new state. The programs seem fairly compatible, with the exception of 1 pre-req for the new school that I wouldn't be taking until 4th semester in my current program. (Did that make sense?)

    It's probably best to talk to the school about it. I know at my school, they rarely take transfer students and when they do, its only if they have a spot for them. They have 26 spots so someone would have to drop out in order to take a transfer student. Things may be different at the school you are considering transfer to. So, I would check with them.

    Someone in my school came from another program because he didn't like the atmosphere at the first school and there was no problem for him at all. Make certain you have a place in the new school before you quit at the old school. You don't want to shoot yourself in the foot.

    Thanks for the reply. It's nice to know that it is possible to do something like this smoothly.

    My situation's a bit different. I love my current program, but an opportunity has come to us from family out in another state, which is where we were planning on moving after I finished school anyway. The offer includes a place to live free of charge until I finish school, which would allow me to concentrate only on school and not have to work. It would also keep us closer to family should the need arise for any kind of help with life/living.

    The two schools are both aware of the situation and are currently talking with each other to see how compatible the programs are. We'll see what happens.

    In checking the NCLEX pass rates of the schools, the potential new school is actually a better program than the one I'm currently in (96% vs 86% pass rates).
