Training after graduation?

Nurses New Nurse

Published

I graduate May 07 with my BSN. I'm curious to know if there are any hospitals out there that hire new grads and place them in training programs such as ER/ICU. I'm very intersted in specializing in one or both of these areas. Any info appreciated...Thks ;-)

Yes - where I live (Houston) there are a ton that do this. They're generally called nurse internships and they are a great way to get into specialty/critical care nursing.

Thanks...appreciate the info

Specializes in PCU/TELE.

Start checking the hospital employment openings as many of these internships will be filled long before you graduate and you may miss out.

Specializes in Telemetry & Obs.

Absolutely check asap....I was offered my new grad fellowship even before graduation. Those positions fill up *fast*...you may even have to wait until close to the next graduation :(

Thank you...looking at a few possibilities in San Diego where they offer 6 month ER training ;-)

Specializes in heme oncology, critical care.

im a new grad, and i was hired to work in the bone marrow transpant unit which is considered critical care. i know a lot of fellow students that got hired in both the er and icu. but like someone else mentioned, if you want those positions, make sure that you apply EARLY. i was offered oncology at another hospital, and then they realized that they had hired too many gns, and took back the position!

GOOD LUCK
