What is a "data abstractor"?

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

People who abstract data from charts. We have trauma registrars (data analysts) who abstract patient and event data from our medical records and enter it in our trauma registry (database), and they also code for injuries and procedures.

OP, "data abstraction" is very general. What sort of data abstraction?

It's hospital data abstraction medical records, this will allow working from home, any helpful info will be appreciated, thanks.

You're probably going to have to take a coding/billing class as these positions are typically used to fulfill those functions. Have you found a job already? What do the requirements say?

Hi Pixie.RN, thank you so much for the information. That is the way I need to go. Yes I found a company online that will allow me to work from home which will be the best thing to happen to me now but they require that I have experience already extracting data, they don't have training for it, that is the requirement.

Hello, does anyone here work for Q-centrix now or in the past?, if so how did you acquire the needed experience? Am not sure where I need to look for experience. Someone Please help!

Check out Inovalon.

Q Centrix, have you looked at their job requirements. they ask you come in fully certified and ask you to pass their test. There are trauma registries, Get with the guidelines, NSQIP. and Bariatric registries. all require you get trained and certified by the sponsoring hospital. There are hospital coders by they also have to pass a test. You have to know ICD 10 codes and CPTs codes.
