Too good for my own good? Rant!

I am a new nurse to the facility, but have been an RN for 2 years. I have very high expectations of myself and other people. If a CNA is improperly providing care, totally slacking, or faking VS, I will talk to them about it. I have not written anyone up or insinuated I would do so. I also recognize great work and tell people frequently when they are doing a good job.

The other day I was pulled aside by a nurse that has been there many years and told I need to watch my back. I am ruffling feathers by insisting things get done right. I was told to ask the other nurses first and be more careful. I was so offended and hurt. The biggest deal about it is that I believe it is gender bias. I am a female with a strong personality so I need to be more careful? The male Nocs nurse yells at the CNAs but that's ok. I was told people have worked there a long time and I need to slow down or my job could be at risk. My boss has said nothing about this to me.

I work very hard because I am a good nurse, I was taught to do things right, and (bottom line) the residents are paying me to ensure their care is excellent. Now I have to worry that my bar is too high? Excuse me, but Forget that.

Sounds like there are other staff that don't want you to show them up. As long as you are completing your job and watching over your staff, myself as management would be happy. If you feel cause for concern, go see your direct supervisor.

Nobody should be yelling at anyone.

OP, what kinda of things are you asking? What is an example of what you say?

Sounds like you are doing things right. How do you know they are faking vital signs though? If you know for sure you should talk to them about it and if that doesn't work you need to tell your manager. Sounds kind of like a toxic workplace if you're being almost threatened because of wanting things done correctly.

Sorry to go a little off-topic, but why is it that people refer to the night shift as the NOC or NOCS nurse? What does this stand for? I've never heard anyone use that phrase here in Miami, but I see it all over AllNurses.

I picked it up at my job, it means "nocturnal."

I can't tell you how many times I've been told my standards are too high, I expect too much, and 'everyone's not like you". Excuuuuuuuuse me. If everyone were like me, the world would be a better place. Only half joking. Don't lower your standards. We're not making widgets, we're taking care of PEOPLE.
