Tips for not losing your cookies

I noted that there are several tips interspersed throughout the "what grosses you out" thread, but thought we could post them here.

A co-worker brought in a small bottle of oil of wintergreen (found in natural foods store) to place just a tiny drop under the nose for those hard-to-dissipate odors. Works like a charm! :)

Anyone else?

My locker at work has an ever so small jar of Noxema. I may look like I am trying to wax off my moustache if I go a little heavy with it, but everyone knows it's there and I share freely. Some have suggested leaving it at the bedside of particularly foul smelling patients, but then one would have to enter the smog, to get at the jar. :imbar

I have heard that a little Vicks Vapor Rub under the nose works well. Also, breathing through your mouth instead of your nose, but that seems gross to me. Then the "fumes" are getting into my mouth. I was wondering how to deal with the "yucky" stuff myself. I'm sure I will get my share when I start clinicals in the fall.

:uhoh3: I was wondering if charcoal masks would offend the patient?

I geuss it would depend on the patient and what they were in for. I'm trying to picture myself lying in a hospital bed with a minor ailment and someone coming in to give me meds fully protected with charcoal mask/gloves/goggles/gown/etc! I would get worried, but is a funny visual.
