Thoughts?

Wanted to ask for a while. A nurse has been arrested and charged with murder. All the staff are leaving and think the nurse is being set up to take the fall for bad outcomes. Management and above say the RN is absolutely guilty. Would you be worrying about staying there? Think it's possible for an RN to be framed for murder?

Do you mean the nurse is being charged with murder for something that happened to a patient at the facility you work at? You also say bad outcomes (pleural), more than 1 patient? Either way if patients seem to be dying then something might be wrong and yes some facilities will try to throw anyone under the bus they think they can. But with no info, who knows. I would try to find out more info because it is not the norm to arrest nurses for murder (at least I hope not!) I would also obtain your own (personal) malpractice insurance.

Ummm, I would think for something as serious as a murder charge there would be a mountain of evidence. Like toxicology of the deceased, Pyxis records, possible video evidence, and maybe MAR evidence. Charting not quite adding up.

No way somebody is being charged, especially from the prosecutor's standpoint without hard evidence.

Arrested and charged with murder(s) is more than just bad outcomes... it is also less usual to go specifically after an individual RN rather than hospital as a whole or physicians because of wanting the biggest fish when it comes to settlement payouts.

Could a nurse be framed/thrown under the bus? - yes, it is possible, but it is very unusual for a nurse to be arrested for murder unless there is more to the story than just a hospital having bad patient outcomes. It's impossible to say what is really going on with out more information.
