Third time isnt the charm for me :(

I took my NCLEX-RN on Monday for the 3rd time and I got all 265 questions and I found out this morning that I did not pass. I had a 3.5 GPA all through school and I have super bad test anxiety and I just cant seem to get over the anxiety to pass this test. I took KAPLAN when I graduated, I have used that book to help me study, I have Saunders, and the LaCharity delegation book. I am not really sure what to do now to get ready to test again. I live in Utah and their state policy only lets you test a maximum of 4 times and after that, if you dont pass, then you can never test again in the state of Utah for your RN license, they dont offer a class after the 3rd attempt like other states so I am down to my last try to pass this darn thing and then I would have to go to another state near-by. Anyone who has taken it multiple times have any advice???? Or any advice at all would def help me out b/c I am pretty discouraged right now!

sounds like maybe the biggest hurdle is getting the anxiety under control, usually people who get 265 are close to the passing standard, if you feel confident in the content and test taking strategies then I would find ways to decrease anxiety! To lower my anxiety I did "practice" nclex where I would wake up and go through the motions as if I was really testing, I would go to the NCSBN website and do the tutorial, and then do practice test (that didnt show the answers right away) for 265 questions, took break when I needed to and then analyzed how I did afterwards. Different things work for different people and you need to find something that workd for you! Good Luck!!!!!

Thanks! I got on some meds to help with it, propranolol, and it def helped with calming me down a little bit, at least more than the first 2 times but after like 200 ?s I was so burnt out and over it and who knows if that made a diff or not.

i def know how it feels..i had 265 every single time..and when i took it on monday and it went past 75 again i just kept telling myself im going to pass and i just need to answer them the best i can..and somehow i actually passed..i didn't think it was possible at 265...but it def is possible...i studied the lacharity book and i just kept doing the questions from nclex 3500 over and over and over again...and i lived at the library for 2 weeks prior because i dont do well at home with distractions...i know you can do it...im a horrible test taker too!! Good Luck to you!!!

I REALLY FEEL your pain! I'm not giving up. We can do this!

Don't give up, until you reached your goal. God bless.

Thanks everyone! I just got my report in the mail today from the state board of nursing and I was near or above passing in all areas so I know I was super close I am just majorly discouraged. I am going to use the LaCharity book again and get a Saunders Comprehensive book....what is the 3500 you are talking about?

Get back up on that horse again. Persistence will get you a pass. Hopefully next time will be the charm.

I know a nurse who took NCLEX 6 times and got it on the last try. You'll get it! And if you have to go to a neighboring state to take it, so what??? You know the material, if you didn't you wouldn't have done so well in classes. Good luck to you!
